Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet‘s future will likely be affected by Prince Harry’s upcoming court battle, it has been revealed.
Archie and his younger sister, Lilibet – now aged five and three – currently live in California with their parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Although they both haven’t made any visits to the UK since 2022, Harry is gearing up for another major court battle later this year. According to the Mirror, this is due to take on either April 8 or 9.
The end result of the court case, which has seen Harry become involved in a long-running legal case against the Home Office to have his taxpayer-funded police protection reinstated, will largely impact Archie and Lilibet.
The Duke of Sussex lost the automatic right to the security when he visits his home country when he and Meghan quit their royal roles in 2020 and left the UK to reside permanently in the US.
The 40-year-old has previously voiced his concerns for his family’s safety in the UK – which has led to him vowing to not bring his wife and their children to the UK again. If this were to be the case, Archie and Lilbet would not visit their father’s home country again.
During a hearing at the High Court last year, it was told that Harry believes his children cannot “feel at home” in the UK if it is “not possible to keep them safe” there.
At a previous hearing in the case, Harry stated in a written statement: “It was with great sadness for both of us that my wife and I felt forced to step back from this role and leave the country in 2020.
“The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home, as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.
“That cannot happen if it’s not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil. I cannot put my wife in danger like that and, given my experiences in life, I am reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm’s way too.”
Due to the lack of visits, King Charles has not seen his two youngest grandchildren in almost three years. Although Archie spent the first year of his life in the UK, the 76-year-old has only met Lilibet – then aged one – on one occasion in 2022.
Speaking on the upcoming court case, a friend of Harry told HELLO!: “The goal for Prince Harry is simple. He wants to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country and so he can help support his patronages and their important work.”
