Prince Harry’s pal has revealed why Harry is determined for his wife, Meghan Markle and two young children to have security protection during any visits to the UK.
It comes amid Harry’s ongoing court battle with the Home Office as his lawyers appeal the decision to downgrade his security provision in the UK, which changed when he stepped back as a working royal in 2020.
A friend of Harry’s told Hello! Magazine: “The goal for Prince Harry is simple. He wants to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country and so he can help support his patronages and their important work.”
Meghan Markle has not visited the UK for a long period of time since the late Queen’s funeral on September 19, 2022. Harry has not brought his children to the UK since the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, meaning the King has met his youngest granddaughter Lilibet only once in person.
The Duke of Sussex is said to believe King Charles should intervene on his behalf to have his full protection reinstated, but sources close to the King have said it would be “wholly inappropriate” for him to challenge a Government decision.
If Harry was to successfully appeal the ruling on security, the source believes it would be a step towards building bridges. They explained: “The next case is fundamentally important to him in terms of his family.”
The settlement came amid fresh scrutiny of him and his wife Meghan in the United States after a bruising article appeared in Vanity Fair, alleging the Duchess had been a difficult employer.
Other sources outlining setbacks in the couple’s professional lives and even complaints from fellow residents of Montecito about the unwanted attention created in their home town where the family now reside.
It has been a difficult start to the year, as Meghan was also forced to postpone the launch of her new Netflix series, because of the California wildfire devastation, meaning ‘With Love, Meghan’ is now set to air on March 4.
The couple were seen consoling those fleeing the fire, and handing out food parcels in Pasadena.
The local city’s mayor described the couple’s kind efforts to help in an interview with Fox News: “They took the time to meet the people that are affected and spent time. They’re just very caring people who are concerned for their friends and neighbours.”
Meghan made a further visit to deliver lunch and beauty products to Altadena Girls Fire Recovery, while Harry was pictured meeting firefighters in Salinas.
