Princess Anne, 70, and Mark Phillips, 72, tied the knot in 1973 and went on to have two children together – Peter Phillips, 42, and Zara Tindall, 39. Both professional equestrians, Mark and Anne had plenty in common but their marriage was not to last. They separated in 1989 and finally divorced in 1992.
Despite having parted ways and both remarried, Anne and Mark remain on good terms and live nearby to one another in Gloucestershire.
Anne married her current husband Timothy Laurence just months after her divorce from Mark.
Mark went on to marry American Sandy Pflueger in 1997, but they later divorced in 2012.
Over the years Mark has been a regular at the British Eventing Festival Anne hosts at her Gatcombe Park Estate every September.
2011 – Gatcombe Park
Princess Anne and Mark both appear to be in their element at the Festival of British eventing in 2011.
The former couple are both keen horse-riders and seem to be absorbed in deep conversation as they stand side by side.
They both sport casual outfits suited to the outdoor event.
Body language expert Judi James told Express.co.uk: “Mark is in the signature ‘dashing’ mode that he often adopted during photo-shoots for their wedding but here he seems to have grown into the pose for real.
“He looks confident and much more alpha now, with a more casual hand thrust into the pocket of his white jeans and as he grins back at Anne she almost adopts a more submissive, youthful pose, clasping her hands behind her back and smiling with an uncharacteristic look of something bordering on shyness.”

2013 – Badminton horse trials
Anne looks stern while Mark wears a signature grin as they stand beside each other at Badminton Horse Trials in 2013.
While Anne teams her cap and sunglasses with a casual raincoat, Mark looks relaxed in a comfy fleece and jeans.
They both appear to be absorbed in the ongoing equestrian event around them.
Judi said: “Even during a more reflective moment between the pair, Anne and Mark produce mirrored body language, standing with their hands stuffed into their pockets and their legs splayed.
“The postural echo hints at like-minded thinking that might have been vital to keep a friendly relationship that involved shared children on track for so many years.”
2014 – Gatcombe Park
In this photo, Zara and Mark are both captured laughing at Anne who appears to be a touch exasperated.
Mark reaches his hand in the air as he and Zara prepare to walk away from Anne who seems to be holding her nose in joking dismay.
Judi said: “The communal joke-sharing here suggests Mark, Anne and their daughter Zara might even have achieved a more easy-going and playful family vibe than they did during Mark and Anne’s marriage.
“These are familiar and affectionate smiles rather than the polite or even frosty variety you often get when divorced couples meet up in public and Zara’s animated display suggests she is more than relaxed and happy to see her two parents together.
“Anne appears to be sharing a joke with her daughter and her under-nose pinch gesture suggests she might be being a bit naughty but her eye-crinkling and her mouth shape suggest genuine good humour.
“Mark’s eye-crinkling is similar but double that of Anne’s and as he looks at his ex-wife his cheek-dimpling and his display of upper and lower teeth in a grin signal he’s enjoying her company and the fun enormously.(*5*)This eye contact between the couple defines the strong, friendly relationship that still seems to exist between them. Anne has even taken her sunglasses off to allow her eyes to be more visible.
“Mark’s body language lacks any barriers, with his arms down at his sides, and his grin suggests he loves sharing a joke with his ex-wife.
“There is another body language cue here that appears to emphasize the more relaxed and fun relationship between them now: Zara’s posture and the exaggerated point gesture make her look like a young girl out with her mum and dad here and enjoying every moment of it.”
2014 – Gatcombe Park
Anne and Mark appear to share a joke as they stand with daughter Zara in the grounds of Gatcombe Park in 2014.
Anne shoots her husband a gentle mocking look in the sweet snap while he appears to roar with laughter.
Zara seems to be her parents’ referee in the charming picture as she extends an arm out towards Anne.
Judi said: “We can see Mark’s eye-crinkling is still present here, even in profile, suggesting his face is still wreathed in the same smile of pleasure as he wore watching Anne and Zara together.
“Unlike his more diffident body language during their marriage, Mark’s recent displays suggest a much more relaxed and confident attitude with Anne and she seems quite happy with this more dominant version of her ex. Her partial barrier gesture here suggests some wariness but as she speaks her lips form a pushed-out, ‘beak’ shape that suggests she is mid-joke or mid-banter here.”
