Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi welcomed their second daughter, named Athena, into the world on January 22, 2025.
The youngest member of the British Royal Family – who is one week old today – is a younger sister to the couple’s three-year-old Sienna and Edoardo’s son from a previous relationship, eight-year-old Wolfie.
Following her birth last week, Athena will be 11th in the line of succession. One place behind her older sister, Athena will benefit from a major royal rule change that came into place in 2013.
The Succession to the Crown Act (2013) was an amendment to the provisions of the Bill of Rights and the Act of Settlement.
It ended the system of male primogeniture and stated girls will not be overtaken by younger brothers.
This was first seen taking place when Prince Louis was born in 2018. Louis’s older sister, Princess Charlotte – who was born in 2015 – kept her place in line to the throne.
Upon the birth of her new niece, Princess Eugenie will fall down to 12th in line – meaning that everyone following will also drop a place in the line of succession.
Revealing a sweet picture of Athena, a statement was released on behalf of the couple. The statement read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57pm. The baby was born weighing 4 pounds and 5 ounces.
“The King and Queen, and other members of The Royal Family have all been informed and are delighted with the news.”
The statement also shared that the couple would like to thank the staff at for their “wonderful care”. Athena is “healthy and doing well” and is now home with her family. The family are now said to be enjoying spending time together, along with Athena’s older siblings, Wolfie and Sienna.
Taking to his own Instagram account, Edoardo also posted the same snap that he took of Athena. In his caption, he wrote: Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her.
“Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena. [pink-heart emoji] A massive thank you from my wife and I goes out to all the wonderful staff at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their exceptional care and support during this incredibly special time.”
