One of the biggest country music acts of the last 25 years is releasing its first new song since reuniting.
Rascal Flatts announced Tuesday that “I Dare You,” a new collaboration with the Jonas Brothers, will be released on Friday. It will be the first new Rascal Flatts song since the 2020 single, “How They Remember You,” released for a farewell tour that never happened due to the Covid pandemic.
Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney parted ways at the time but recently reunited to perform at President Donald Trump’s inauguration festivities. Rascal Flatts are also going on a reunion tour starting next month, though no concerts are scheduled in Upstate New York.
“In 2020, we announced the farewell tour after being on the road extensively for 20 years,” the band said in a statement. “To put it simply, we needed a break. Then COVID hit and our plans came to a screeching halt, like the rest of the world. Since then, we’ve been able to revisit our unique and special experience as a band and we’re ready to get out on the road again. It’s hard to believe that (2025) will be the 25th anniversary of Rascal Flatts, and that felt like the perfect time to get back in front of the fans who have given us so much.”
Rascal Flatts didn’t say if the song with the Jonas Brothers would lead to a full-length album.
Both artists are trios with family ties. LeVox and DeMarcus are second cousins who formed Rascal Flatts in 1999 with Joe Don Rooney. Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas are brothers who first rose to fame on the Disney Channel.
Rascal Flatts hits include songs like “Bless the Broken Road,” “My Wish,” “Why Wait,” “Banjo,” “Life is a Highway” and “Yours If You Want It.” LeVox also released solo music during the band’s hiatus.
The Jonas Brothers are mostly known for pop songs like “Burnin’ Up,” “Year 3000,” “What a Man Gotta Do,” “Burnin’ Up,” “Only Human,” “Sucker,” “Lovebug,” “S.O.S.” and “When You Look Me in the Eyes.” During their own hiatus, Joe Jonas scored hits with DNCE (“Cake By the Ocean”), Kevin Jonas starred on a reality TV show with his wife, and Nick Jonas acted in movies like “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”
