STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There’s something about reminiscing the time-honored tunes popular back in the day.
If so, you won’t want to miss a Rock’ N Oldies Dance Party Saturday, March 22 at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts: The Springer Concert Hall at the College of Staten Island, where doo wop tunes from American Songbook will be played throughout the evening.
Tickets are selling fast and it’s not too early to reserve.
Taking center stage during the spectacular production will be popular groups like the Brooklyn Bridge, Vito Picone & The Elegants, Vinnie Medugno and The Chiclettes, John Scupelliti & The Reactions and Bobby Wilson.
Al Simone of A.D.P. Entertainment notes that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Legion of Richmond County.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE ENTERTAINMENT LINEUP
The Brooklyn Bridge was formed in March 1968 and had their first of many hit records, “The Worst That Could Happen,” in 1969. The top 40 hits continued with “Welcome Me Love,” “Blessed Is the Rain “and “Your Husband, My Wife.” Show stopping renditions of “16 Candles” and “Unchained Melody” further cemented the group’s reputation as a must-see live act. The Brooklyn Bridge has performed at every major concert venue over the years including Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall, The Beacon Theater and Radio City Music.
Vito Picone & The Elegants, still based on Staten Island, were formed in 1956 by lead singer Vito Picone, who co-wrote their No. 1 hit single “Little Star.” The record sold more than 2-1/2 million copies worldwide in 1958. Today, Picone, original member Jimmy Moschello, baritone, Frank Jeckell, first tenor, Gary Catalano, third tenor, and Bruce “Sonny” Copp, second tenor and rhythm guitarist, have been acclaimed as one of the most entertaining acts representing the great era of the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Vinnie Medugno is a teacher, singer, and radio host who teaches performing arts media broadcasting. Medugno has his own radio show every Saturday night on 77 WABC. He has opened for many of the greats including Bobby Rydell and Frankie Avalon.
The Chiclettes, together with The Coda Band, promises to get the audience moving with their high-energy tribute to female artists through the decades. They will reenact the contributions female artists made to pop music through the years.
John Scupelliti, a Brooklyn native, began singing with several groups before he formed The Reactions in 1962. The group recorded “Our Wonderful Love” and “That Girl,” which was released in 1964. Scupelliti remains the lead singer. The other group members are Phil Block, baritone, John Foster, second tenor, and Elmo Maisonet, first tenor.
Dubbed “Mr. Entertainment,” Bobby Brooks Wilson is the son of legendary rhythm and blues/soul singer, Jackie Wilson. Bobby has the same amazing traits and talents as his father and many say Jackie Wilson’s legacy lives on through his son.
