Snoop Dogg has clapped back at critics following backlash for his appearance at President Trump’s inaugural Crypto Ball earlier this month.
The 53-year-old rapper responded to the negativity last Sunday by posting a video on Instagram, where he’s seen driving around, listening to gospel music, and smoking a joint.
“For all the hate, I’m going to answer with love,” declared Snoop in his online retort. “Get your life right, stop worrying about mine.”
Snoop emphasized his unwavering pride in his identity, stating, “I’m cool. I’m together. Still a Black man. Still 100% Black. Y’all can’t hate enough for me—I love too much.”
Snoop used the moment to discuss the habit of people tearing one another down: “We gotta learn how to pick each other up rather than put each other down. That’s what we’re great at as Black people—we’re great at tearing each other down,” he said.
“But I’m a strong Black man. You can’t tear me down. I’m one of God’s children… and I’m taking the Lord.”
Despite some commenters branding him a “sellout,” many fans flooded Snoop’s feed with support, sending messages like “We got you, Snoop” and “Keep your head up”.
Yet, his recent performance on Jan. 17 at Trump’s pre-inauguration has seemingly led to a loss of support: since then, Snoop lost over 570,000 Instagram followers and 17,000 on X (formerly Twitter).
Interestingly, the rapper’s stance on Trump has shifted significantly in recent years.
Back in 2018, during an interview with SiriusXM radio, Snoop did not hold back his criticism for Trump supporters, branding them as “stupid motherf–kers.”
However, come 2021, Snoop’s attitude changed notably after Trump granted a pardon to Michael “Harry O” Harris, one of the figures behind Death Row Records, who had served 30 years of a 25-years-to-life sentence for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
Speaking to The Sunday Times in January 2024, Snoop said: “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me”.
“He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris.”
