Snoop Dogg is another celebrity who has had fans turn on him over his support for President Donald Trump the weekend of his inauguration.
Days after it was reported that Kim Kardashian lost almost 150,000 Instagram followers for posting a photo of First Lady Melania Trump arriving at the historical event, the rapper saw a massive decline in his followers on the platform.
Snoop’s follower count has rapidly decreased in the days following his performance at the Crypto Ball ahead of Trump’s inauguration on January 17, 2025. As of January 27, the “Gin and Juice” rapper has lost 571,800 followers, which equates to nearly 50,000 followers per day.
It’s suspected that Snoop’s involvement in Trump being sworn in as President is the reason behind his significant drop in followers, especially given the backlash he received online.
Fans were taken aback by Snoop’s performance since he called out Black people for standing for Trump during his first presidential term eight years ago. However, the hip-hop star had a much different tune this go around, and he even clapped back at critics who questioned his move.
“It’s Sunday man, I got gospel in my heart right now,” Snoop — birth name Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr — said in an Instagram Live. “For all that hate, I’m going to answer with love. Y’all can’t hate enough on me. I love too much. Get your life right stop worrying about mine. I’m cool, I’m together. Still a Black man, still 100 percent Black.”
Snoop’s post didn’t appear to win his fans back, as they’ve been dropping off his socials like flies.
According to social media marketing experts, Viralyft, who analyzed Snoop’s Instagram account through Social Blade, not only did he see an over half a million-follower dip on the platform, but he also lost 17,177 followers on X, formerly Twitter, since his performance.
Thomas Moore from Viralyft responded to the drastic follower loss: “Seeing the enormous drop in followers from Snoop Dogg’s Instagram account, along with a lot of critique on numerous social platforms of the appearance at the Crypto Ball, highlights the impact that political statements can make, whether it’s a social media post or simply appearing at a party.”
His comment continued: “Whilst Snoop Dogg has hit back at critics of his actions, many cite their desire to unfollow the rapper because of his contradicting stance on President Trump between his first term and his second term.
“It will be interesting to observe Snoop Dogg’s following and see if this loss continues to grow or if it turns around, with those who favor Trump choosing to follow the rapper.”
Despite Snoop’s fans’ disapproval of his backing Trump, many of his celebrity friends have stood up for the Grammy Award winner and urged fans not to turn their backs on him. Those who have defended Snoop include:
Democrats were also livid over singers Carrie Underwood and Kid Rock’s choice to perform at the inauguration. However, some felt it was karma that the former experienced severe technical issues forcing her to sing “America the Beautiful” a cappella.
