The Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) has charged Travelgirl Inc. and its representative, Tarcia Brown, with operating as a travel agent without proper registration.
Brown faces one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered and another count of failing to take reasonable care as an Officer and Director of a corporation to prevent the company from committing an offence.
TICO alleges that both Travelgirl Inc. and Brown engaged in selling travel services without the required registration.
Brown is scheduled to appear regarding these charges in court on 02APR 2025 in Whitby, Ontario.
In October 2024, she pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to fraud in travel sales. Sentencing for those charges is set for April 2025.
TICO has clarified that its current charges against Brown are separate from the fraud case.
Convicted: Mark Williams Operating as Entertainment Tours
In a separate matter, Mark Williams has pleaded guilty to one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered. Williams was fined CAD$8,750, including a victim surcharge, and sentenced to a two-year probation period.
TICO prosecutes unregistered companies and individuals to maintain the integrity of Ontario’s travel marketplace and ensure consumers are confident purchasing travel from registered professionals.
