Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em><\/a> star Camilla Luddington<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about her recent Hashimoto\u2019s disease diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Luddington, 41, shared the news of her recent health scare during the Wednesday, August 6, episode of her \u201cCall It What It Is\u201d<\/a> podcast, which she cohosts with Grey\u2019s<\/em> alum Jessica Capshaw<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The British-born actress detailed how she had been \u201cfeeling slothy\u201d for some time before having her blood work done around two and a half months ago. \u201cMy doctor was like, \u2018Everything looks great except this one little thing.\u2019 I remember hearing the words \u2018autoimmune disease\u2019 and thinking, \u2018What the f***?\u2019\u201d Luddington recalled.<\/p>\n

Luddington said that her doctor told her she had a condition called Hashimoto\u2019s hyperthyroidism and assured her it was very common. \u201cTruly, when they said \u2018autoimmune disease,\u2019 I was a really freaked out, and then when they said it\u2019s really common, I was like, \u2018That sucks but OK,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Endometriosis causes abnormal tissue growth in and around the uterus, and is one of the leading causes of infertility in women. The condition occurs in as many as 1 in 10 women, according to [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to the Mayo Clinic<\/a>, Hashimoto\u2019s disease is an autoimmune disorder that leads to the thyroid not producing enough \u201chormones that help regulate many functions in the body.\u201d Symptoms include sluggishness, increased desire to sleep, dry skin and increased sensitivity to cold.<\/p>\n

Luddington said she experienced some of these symptoms before she was diagnosed. \u201cI knew something was up. Even when I was having my blood drawn, the doctor said to me, \u2018Is there any particular thing you\u2019re concerned about?\u2019 and I said, \u2018Look, I\u2019m really f***ing tired all the time. I\u2019m wondering if I\u2019m in perimenopause,\u2019\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes you feel tired and cold. It can make you foggy, depressed, you can have dry skin, your hair can thin. Basically, you\u2019re feeling gorgeous with Hashimoto\u2019s,\u201d the actress added sarcastically.<\/p>\n

Luddington said that her symptoms got so bad that, \u201cIt got to the point where, by 11 a.m., it felt like I had chugged some Benadryl and I needed to nap, and it didn\u2019t matter how much sleep I\u2019d gotten the night before. There was no pushing through the day.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also said she awoke one day to find her \u201cface and hands were really swollen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was getting to the point where I was like, \u2018Wow, this is hard to live this way.\u2019 I didn\u2019t realize how exhausted my body was,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
