\u201cSNL50\u201d had <\/span>everything <\/span><\/em>\u2014 <\/span>hot dogs and heroin<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>alien probings<\/span><\/a>, a <\/span>naked Pete Davidson<\/span><\/a>, oodles of celebs, and tons of \u201c<\/span>Saturday Night Live<\/span><\/a>\u201d alums \u2014 but it didn\u2019t have <\/span>Bill Hader<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After the iconic sketch show aired its 50th anniversary special in February, <\/span>many longtime fans were disappointed<\/span><\/a> that Hader, a former and beloved cast member, didn\u2019t make an appearance. When <\/span>Variety reached out<\/span><\/a> to ask why the comedian had skipped the celebration, a representative for Hader said it was due to \u201clongstanding scheduling conflict.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

And if that sounds like an excuse, it\u2019s because it was \u2014 at least according to Hader himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Tuesday\u2019s episode of \u201c<\/span>Late Night with Seth Meyers<\/span>,\u201d Meyers, who is also an \u201cSNL\u201d alum, casually revealed<\/a> the real reason Hader was absent.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cYou were very open and honest, sort of, after you left \u2018SNL,\u2019 about the anxiety you had when you were working there,\u201d Meyers began. \u201cAnd then for \u2018SNL\u2019 50th, people were, obviously, at first, disappointed you weren\u2019t coming, but that was the reason.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Meyers, who helped write the special, went on to say that when he found out Hader didn\u2019t want to appear because of his anxiety, he accepted it. But it seems that another \u201cSNL\u201d alum tried to convince Hader to do it anyway.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cAndy [Samburg] called me and was like, \u2018Hey, so we\u2019re doing this short about how, you know, everybody had anxiety.\u2019 … And when he told me about it, I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t know if I want to do that,\u2019\u201d Hader recalled to Meyers. \u201cAnd he was like, \u2018Why?\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Because I\u2019m anxious!\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Hader said current \u201cSNL\u201d cast member Bowen Yang played the part Samberg had initially pitched to him, a performance the \u201cSkeleton Twins\u201d star said was \u201cgreat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
