George Clooney<\/a> doesn\u2019t seem fazed by criticism concerning his acting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Oscar winner has famously played a wide variety of characters, including an emergency room doctor in \u201cER,\u201d iconic superhero billionaire Bruce Wayne in \u201cBatman & Robin\u201d and an astronaut in \u201cGravity.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n However, critics often accuse him of playing himself in every project.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cDo people say that I only play myself? His manic, wide-eyed paranoia in \u201cBurn After Reading,\u201d for instance, is undeniably distinct from the suave, Cary Grant-esque charm he exhibits in \u201cOcean\u2019s Eleven.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n One explanation for the criticism: Clooney\u2019s ubiquitous, world-famous persona across films, advertisements<\/a> and politics<\/a> is too prominent to be hidden behind characters \u2014 audiences can\u2019t help but recognize him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n To drive the point home, Clooney quoted \u201cJay Kelly\u201d during his interview: \u201cHave you ever tried playing yourself? It\u2019s hard to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n However, there have been some who don\u2019t even consider Clooney a movie star.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Clooney reacted to the comment with an expletive-laden response<\/a> last year and told GQ at the time<\/a> that \u201cthis millennium\u201d \u2014 which saw Clooney lead the \u201cOcean\u2019s\u201d trilogy, win an acting Oscar and cement himself as a household name \u2014 is \u201ckind of my whole fucking career.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t really get successful, in the kind of success that can be blinding, until I was 33 years old,\u201d Clooney told Vanity Fair. \u201cI\u2019d been working for 12 years at that point.
