In a Vanity Fair interview released Monday, the leading man warned people<\/a> not to underestimate Sandler\u2019s talent as he opened up about the friendship they forged while making their forthcoming film, \u201cJay Kelly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During production on the coming-of-age dramedy, which follows aging movie star Jay Kelly and his longtime manager, Ron Sukenick, as they travel through Europe, Clooney and Sandler got just as close as their characters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

That bond, felt both on screen and off, left Clooney acutely aware of how his co-star\u2019s comedic gifts have overshadowed his creative depth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cThis film, more than any film Adam has done, shows what a beautiful, heartfelt, soulful actor he is,\u201d Clooney said of Sandler\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The \u201cOcean\u2019s 11\u201d star told Vanity Fair he make a point of not letting people reduce his friend to the role of court jester.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI kept telling the cast, \u2018Don\u2019t call him Sand Man. Don\u2019t talk to him like he\u2019s just some goofy comedian. He\u2019s actually a really beautiful, wonderful actor,\u2019\u201d Clooney recalled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

With Sandler\u2019s resume full of blockbuster knee-slappers like \u201cHappy Gilmore,\u201d \u201cBilly Madison,\u201d \u201cBig Daddy\u201d and more, some might not clock his complexity, but Clooney gave him high praise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cBecause of what his paycheck is, which is doing big goofy comedies, when he does these other, beautiful, \u2018Uncut Gems\u2019 kinds of movies, it reminds people of that,\u201d the Oscar-winner said. \u201cHe\u2019s not just a good comedian.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cJay Kelly\u201d is set for theatrical release on Nov. 14 and will be available to stream on Netflix<\/a> starting Dec. 5.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
