This cow-saving tactic might make you howl with laughter.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The United States Department of Agriculture is using audio of actors Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver<\/span> to scare off wolves, <\/span>The Wall Street Journal reported last week<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n In the wildly amusing report, the outlet explained that gray wolves in the American West are wreaking havoc on livestock. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt\u2019s basically like driving through Burger King, easy pickings for them,\u201d Mary Rickert, the owner of Prather Ranch in Northern California, told the Journal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Although Rickert has lost as many as 40 calves to the carnivores, she can\u2019t just go John Wick on them. The wolves are endangered \u2014 which means it\u2019s illegal to harm them<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n But the USDA has come up with a pretty creative way to keep herds of sheep and cattle from becoming a pack\u2019s all-you-can-eat buffet.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Essentially, the agency is using drones equipped with spotlights, loudspeakers and \u201cthermal cameras that can reveal any wolf lurking in the darkness.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n When the flying bot spots a wolf near a rancher\u2019s animals, it uses the light and the loudspeaker to scare it back into the woods.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Some of the recordings played on the drones\u2019 loudspeakers make logical sense \u2014 like loud fireworks or gunshots. But others are just straight-up silly, and<\/span> include AC\/DC\u2019s \u201cThunderstuck\u201d and the explosive fight between Johansson\u2019s and Driver\u2019s characters in Noah Baumbach\u2019s 2019 film, \u201cMarriage Story.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI need the wolves to respond and know that, hey, humans are bad,\u201d a USDA district supervisor (who is totally a human and not a canine) named Paul Wolf told the Journal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
