Brace yourselves for discourse: a new Colleen Hoover<\/a> movie adaptation is on the horizon.<\/p>\n Paramount just dropped the first trailer for Regretting You<\/i><\/a>, a new drama based on the polarizing author\u2019s bestselling 2019 novel<\/a> of the same name.<\/p>\n The film focuses on the strained relationship between Morgan Grant (Allison Williams<\/a>), a young mother, and her teenage daughter Clara (McKenna Grace<\/a>), whose lives are upended after the tragic death of Chris (Scott Eastwood<\/a>), Morgan\u2019s husband and Clara\u2019s father.<\/p>\n When secrets about Chris and his personal life start to resurface after his death, Morgan and Clara must rebuild their relationship and face their grief and betrayal together.<\/p>\n \u201cIt feels like there is this wall between her and me,\u201d Morgan says to Jonah (Dave Franco<\/a>), her brother-in-law, in the trailer.<\/p>\n \u201cYou remember that age,\u201d he replies. \u201cEverything felt so\u2026complicated.\u201d<\/p>\n Hoover is a controversial author known and critiqued for writing books featuring romances that some readers consider to be toxic and anti-feminist<\/a> and who therefore resent the author\u2019s massive success. As such, there have typically been strong opinions on starry film adaptations of her work. In the wake of the Blake Lively<\/a> and Justin Baldoni<\/span> lawsuits that emerged from the production of It Ends with Us<\/i><\/span>\u2014a 2024 adaptation of Hoover\u2019s novel\u2014there is more discourse than ever.<\/p>\n In the lawsuit, Lively alleges that Baldoni started a PR smear campaign against her to discredit her following sexual misconduct allegations on the set of It Ends with Us<\/i>. Baldoni was both the director and executive producer on the film. After filing her suit, Baldoni then countersued Lively for defamation.<\/p>\n Nonetheless, the film ended up grossing over $350 million at the global box office.<\/p>\n On X, one person posted that they \u201cneed them to stop adapting colleen hoover books into movies.\u201d<\/p>\n Another user agreed, but wanted to alter the message slightly: \u201cNeed them to stop Colleen Hoover.\u201d<\/p>\n The trailer didn\u2019t fare much better with others.<\/p>\n Even the people who seemingly enjoyed the trailer claimed they did so grudgingly.<\/p>\n Regretting You <\/i>is one of several film adaptations of Hoover\u2019s books in the works.
