Kelly Clarkson<\/strong><\/a> has put her family first amid ex-husband Brandon Blackstock<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s private cancer battle, with a source shedding light into how she\u2019s been coping.<\/p>\n

\u201cKelly\u2019s work schedule has been difficult over the last few months as she needed to take care of her kids,\u201d a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. <\/i>\u201cShe needed the time off as her kids come first. It\u2019s terrible and sad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson, 43, and Blackstock shared daughter River Rose, 10, and son Remington, 8.<\/a><\/p>\n

Us <\/i>confirmed on Thursday, August 7, that Blackstock died at the age of 48<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,\u201d a family spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cBrandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement concluded, \u201cWe thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family\u2019s privacy during this very difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to River Rose and Remington, Brandon is survived by father Narvel Blackstock<\/strong>, eldest children Savannah and Seth from his first marriage, and his grandchildren. (Savannah announced last month that she is expecting her second baby<\/a> with husband Quentin Lee<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n
