Actor Dean Cain, well known for his role as Superman in the \u201990s TV series \u201cLois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,\u201d was met with backlash online this week after announcing he joined Immigration and Customs Enforcement. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it. So I joined up, and here\u2019s your opportunity to join ICE,\u201d Cain said in a recruitment video<\/a> posted Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter. \u201cYou can earn lots of great benefits and pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Users on the platform were quick to point out the age restrictions for people joining the federal enforcement agency (at least 21 and not older than 37 or 40, depending on the role), but Cain, 59, <\/span>responded to one user<\/span><\/a>: \u201cPerhaps we\u2019ll get that changed\u2026\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The next day, the Department of Homeland Security announced it was <\/span>removing the upper age limit<\/span><\/a> for ICE recruits in an effort to <\/span>boost deportations<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The actor appeared Wednesday on Fox News\u2019 \u201cJesse Watters Primetime,\u201d telling the host he spoke with ICE officials and will be sworn in as an agent \u201cASAP.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWe have a broken immigration system. Congress needs to fix it, but in the interim, President Trump ran on this. He is delivering on this,\u201d Cain told Watters<\/a>. \u201cThis is what people voted for. It\u2019s what I voted for, and he\u2019s going to see it through, and I\u2019ll do my part and help make sure it happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n ICE has been embroiled in controversy since <\/span>Donald Trump<\/span><\/a> returned to the White House, as many <\/span>nonviolent immigrants<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>green card holders,<\/span><\/a> visa holders<\/span><\/a>, and even <\/span>U.S. citizens<\/span><\/a> have been placed in detention centers with reported <\/span>deplorable conditions<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cThis country was built on patriots stepping up, whether it was popular or not, and doing the right thing. I truly believe this is the right thing,\u201d Cain told Watters. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Cain is among a group of Hollywood actors, including <\/span>Jon Voight and Mel Gibson<\/span><\/a>, who have aligned themselves with Trump\u2019s MAGA movement. He slammed James Gunn\u2019s <\/span>recently released Superman film as \u201cwoke\u201d<\/span><\/a>; the movie has received high praise from critics and filmgoers on <\/span>Rotten Tomatoes<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The actor, born Dean George Tanaka, recently spoke about his Japanese heritage on his father\u2019s side in an<\/span> interview with Variety<\/span><\/a>, saying members of his family were placed in internment camps. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cMy family was interred in the Minidoka internment camp in Idaho,\u201d Cain said. \u201cThat was a horrible injustice, but I don\u2019t think that I deserve any sort of reparations.\u201d <\/span> <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Many social media users attacked Cain\u2019s decision to join ICE, pointing out that this is not what the hero he played, who stood for \u201ctruth, justice and the American way,\u201d would have done. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
