\n\tYou\u2019ve heard him as a rapper, you\u2019ve heard him as a rocker, and now, MGK<\/a> is embracing rootsy folk on his new album, Lost Americana<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tReleased on Friday (Aug. 8), the LP marks the artist formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly\u2019s first full-length Americana project. It follows a string of hip-hop albums released earlier in his career as well as two pop-punk records: Tickets to My Downfall <\/em>and Mainstream Sellout<\/em>, both of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200<\/a>. <\/p>\n \n\tLost Americana <\/em>arrives about two months after MGK announced the project with an album trailer<\/a> narrated by Bob Dylan. \u201cIt\u2019s a sonic map of forgotten places, a tribute to the spirit of reinvention and a quest to reclaim the essence of American freedom,\u201d the folk icon described the album in the June teaser. \u201cFrom the glow of neon diners to the rumble of the motorcycles, this is music that celebrates the beauty found in the in-between spaces. Where the past is reimagined, and the future is forged on your own terms.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAt the time, it wasn\u2019t clear whether it was really Dylan whose voice was featured \u2014 but during a Tonight Show<\/em> appearance a few days prior to Lost Americana<\/em>\u2018s release, MGK confirmed<\/a> that it was authentic. \u201cTo be honest, I have no idea how he even knows who I am to this day,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I\u2019m pretty sure that if I say the wrong thing I\u2019ll mess it all up, so I\u2019ll just shut up and accept whatever Bob Dylan throws my way.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLed by singles \u201cClich\u00e9,\u201d \u201cVampire Diaries\u201d and \u201cMiss Sunshine,\u201d Lost Americana <\/em>is the seventh album MGK has released over the course of his career. The Cleveland-bred artist as become known for experimenting with various genres, something he says is one reason people \u201chate\u201d on him for no reason.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI choose to not stay contained into a societal box,\u201d he said in a recent interview<\/a> with People<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019ve realized they\u2019re the conformists \u2014 you don\u2019t even hate me for a reason that you can actually think of, because all I do is entertain, and entertainment can\u2019t be that serious.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tListen to Lost Americana <\/em>below.<\/p>\n \n
