Alex Warren understands that not everyone has loved, loves, or will love his style of music \u2014 and he\u2019s totally fine with that. On Friday, as he was named MTV\u2019s Push Artist of the month, the \u201cOrdinary\u201d star opened up about the quick start of his career, and how much his music has resonated with certain audiences.<\/p>\n
\u201cI started doing somewhat okay, and I felt like a lot of questions people were asking were like \u2018Who the heck is this kid?\u2019,\u201d Warren told MTV. \u201cAnd I think that\u2019s the thing, this is not everyone\u2019s cup of tea, I do not expect everyone to like this music, but if you do, I hope it helps you, you know, and if you don\u2019t, still hope it helps you.\u201d<\/p>\n
More from Rolling Stone<\/strong><\/p>\n Some people have connected so much with his music \u2014 and specifically his hit, \u201cOrdinary<\/a>\u201d \u2014 that they are using it in weddings.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s really cool that people are starting to associate that song with their wedding,\u201d Warren said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s something forever, that\u2019s something you\u2019re gonna think about forever, that\u2019s such a crucial moment in your life and I\u2019m so blessed that people are allowing me to be a part of that. And so it\u2019s been really cool to kinda just see the reaction but also what they\u2019re applying that song to.\u201d<\/p>\n While discussing his MTV Push Artist title, he was quick to admit that he wasn\u2019t \u201ca huge music guy in the beginning,\u201d and that he mostly listened to the songs his dad liked before he died. That music has become a large influence on his artistry today.<\/p>\n \u201cI would listen to a lot of Rascal Flats, Train, Coldplay, and a lot of my music taste even today is a lot of the stuff I listen to on the radio back in the day,\u201d Warren said. \u201cA lot of people, when they listen to my music today, say \u2018Wow, he has so many influences from the 2010s,\u2019 and I\u2019m like yes, it\u2019s the music I listen to today.\u201d<\/p>\n Warren released his debut album, You\u2019ll Be Alright, Kid<\/a><\/em> \u2014 a two-part album that includes \u201cBloodline\u201d with Jelly Roll, \u201cOrdinary,\u201d and \u201cOn My Mind\u201d with Ros\u00e9 \u2014 in mid-July.
