Sam Nivola<\/strong><\/a> is ready for older actors to clear the way for the next generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe old movie stars are getting plastic surgery, and they\u2019re looking younger and they\u2019re staying young,\u201d the White Lotus actor told Variety<\/a> in a story published Thursday, August 7. \u201cYou have these really old people playing young roles. And it\u2019s not giving any space for the young\u2019uns to move in and make a name for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nivola, 21, is the son of actors Alessandro Nivola<\/strong> and Emily Mortimer<\/strong>. Though he got his start on an episode of Mortimer\u2019s British comedy series Doll & Em, his breakout role came in 2025 when he played Lochlan Ratliff<\/a>, the shy teenage son of financier Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs<\/strong>) and his wife, Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey<\/strong>), on The White Lotus<\/a> season 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith all due respect to those people, one day they won\u2019t be here anymore, literally, and they will have to create new stars,\u201d Nivola added.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tBravo fans who thought the Ratliff family from The White Lotus feel familiar are onto something. Sam Nivola, who plays the youngest member of the Ratliffs, confirmed to People on Sunday, February 23, that creator Mike White instructed that they watch Southern Charm, which has aired on Bravo since 2014 and it chronicles the personal [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That\u2019s not to say Nivola is entirely against the old guard trying to stay young. He said he admires Tom Cruise<\/strong>, who has continued to take action roles into his 60s.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s excelled in every kind of movie,\u201d he said. \u201cHe gives one of the greatest comedic performances of all time in Tropic Thunder, and he\u2019s not at all a comedian. Jerry Maguire, Risky Business, Magnolia \u2014 he\u2019s an incredible dramatic actor. And then he has this whole latter half of his career of being an action star.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also mentioned Bradley Cooper<\/strong>, who directed and starred in the 2023 film Maestro<\/a>, in which Nivola had a small role.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSometimes in Hollywood directors are tasked with making impossible decisions when it comes to perfecting the final cut of their films. In 2025 alone, several big-name actors and actresses have had their scenes cut out of projects for a multitude of reasons, including Simone Ashley from F1 and John Malkovich from The Fantastic Four: First [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Nivola played Alexander, son of Leonard Bernstein<\/strong> (Cooper) and had a major one-on-one scene with Cooper, 50, that was eventually cut from the film. Once his initial disappointment waned, Nivola admitted it was the right choice and called Cooper \u201can innovative filmmaker.\u201d Nivola has even taken a lesson from him, which he called the \u201cBradley Cooper shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust taking a camera around and following the actors around and letting them do whatever they want and rolling for 30 minutes straight,\u201d Nivola explained.<\/p>\n
