Fan-Favorite ‘SNL’ Star Calls Out Show’s ‘Terrible’ 50th Anniversary Audience<\/a> originally appeared on Parade<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n Like so many past performers on Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson returned to the iconic NBC series to celebrate its 50th anniversary this past February.<\/p>\n While the show itself won warm reviews from fans and critics alike, Davidson expressed personal disappointment in some aspects of the show, taking particular issue with the live audience in attendance.<\/p>\n Appearing on a recent episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers<\/em>, the 31-year-old comedian talked about this past year’s historic SNL50<\/em> TV special.<\/p>\n During his conversation with Meyers (who also happens to be an alumnus of Lorne Michaels’ sketch comedy series), Davidson mentioned how disappointing it was to see such little fanfare from the audience inside 30 Rockefeller Plaza.<\/p>\n Above all else, Davidson blamed the numerous celebrities in attendance of SNL<\/em>‘s anniversary show, which included the likes of Cher, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, Kevin Costner, Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.<\/p>\n “Well, as you know from SNL40<\/em>, terrible audience,\u201d Davidson said to Meyers on Late Night<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s a terrible audience. It\u2019s just famous people, and famous people only like themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n As Davidson and Meyers remembered it, Davidson himself was one of the few stars in attendance who remained vocal during the anniversary show’s various sketches.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember when the pre-tape was playing, you were the only one laughing,” Meyers recalled. “We were like, \u2018Oh, he\u2019s coming in way too hot.’\u201d<\/p>\n As underwhelming as the audience might have been in Davidson’s eyes, the popular comedian did mention that he personally had a great time at the show, even managing to snag a seat close to the Oscar-winning Meryl Streep.<\/p>\n \u201cMeryl rules,\u201d Davidson fondly decleared. \u201cI get to my seat and I just look and I\u2019m like, \u2018This can\u2019t be right.\u2019 And it was Meryl Streep and I just sat down and I was like, \u2018I\u2019m so sorry that I\u2019m sitting next to you. You\u2019re the best.\u2019 And she was very nice.”<\/p>\n
