LOS ANGELES \u2014 In making \u201cMy Mother\u2019s Wedding,\u201d Academy Award nominee Kristin Scott Thomas said she set out to draw upon a career that has spanned from the worlds Racine and Chekhov to the charm of Richard Curtis and the emotional depth of Anthony Minghella.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy Mother\u2019s Wedding\u201d is a heartfelt story centering on three sisters coming together \u2026 on, you guessed it\u2026 their mother\u2019s wedding \u2014 her third wedding after being twice-widowed. As the family gathers over a weekend to celebrate, mother and daughters revisit their past and confront the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s [the film] a little slice of life in a family full of women,\u201d Thomas told Spectrum News. \u201cPeople who don\u2019t have sisters should go and find out what it is like to have sisters, and people who do have sisters will recognize an awful lot of what is going on.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Thomas, \u201cMy Mother\u2019s Wedding,\u201d which she directed and co-wrote, is about family, the love family has for one another and the complications of life.<\/p>\n

In making her directorial debut with \u201cMy Mother\u2019s Wedding,\u201d Thomas included some autobiographical truth to the storyline about a father and a stepfather, who are both Royal Navy pilots.<\/p>\n
Thomas\u2019 father and stepfather had the same Christian name, Simon, both were Navy pilots, and both tragically died in the same way \u2014 similar circumstances to those depicted in the film. Her mother would marry for a third time.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know he [my father] loved me. I know I loved him. My stepfather was a wonderful man who stepped in to take care of all of us children. There were lots of us. We were five,\u201d Thomas told Spectrum News. \u201cPeople can\u2019t quite believe that, but it\u2019s true. That\u2019s what happened. That was my experience as a child. It made us who we are. We are all very different. I would not be the same person had my father survived.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thomas, who has cemented her place in cinema history, told Spectrum News she isn\u2019t quite ready to get up from the director\u2019s chair. She already has something up her sleeve. You can also catch her on \u201cSlow Horses\u201d on Apple TV+.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy Mother\u2019s Wedding\u201d is now playing in theaters. It stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham.<\/p>\n
