PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN<\/a><\/strong>) \u2014 A production crew is currently filming a movie centered on a historic Oregon sports team.<\/p>\n \u201cFlash Before the Bang,\u201d directed by deaf filmmaker Jevon Whetter, continued production in Salem and Gresham this week.<\/p>\n Grand Prix of Portland, Foster Summer Soiree among things to do this weekend <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cInspired by a true story, this coming-of-age drama follows an all-deaf high school track and field team from the Oregon School for the Deaf,\u201d Em Fergusson, behind the public relations for the film, wrote in an email. \u201cThe team bravely overcame significant challenges, including discrimination and ableism, to win the 1986 Oregon State Track and Field Championship.\u201d<\/p>\n In May 2023, entertainment magazine Deadline reported<\/a><\/strong> that filming was slated to begin in Georgia later that fall. Fergusson told KOIN 6 that production has since moved to the Beaver State because filmmakers \u201cwanted to keep it authentic and it made more sense for them to film where the events actually took place.\u201d<\/p>\n Earlier on Friday, the film crew shot scenes at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. Hood more exposure,\u201d MHCC Head Track & Field Coach Fernando Fantroy said in an interview.<\/p>\n Although the Oregon Association of the Deaf issued a call for Portland background actors of all ages, it\u2019s unclear who is still set to star in the drama. Deadline initially announced<\/a><\/strong> that \u201cCODA\u201d actor Troy Kotsur, \u201cAmerica\u2019s Next Top Model\u201d winner Nyle DiMarco and Deanne Bray of \u201cSue Thomas: F.B.Eye\u201d would lead the film.<\/p>\n The outlet later reported that \u201cHoney\u201d lead Jessica Alba, \u201cFargo\u201d star Russell Harvard and Daniel Durant \u2014 who acted in the Academy-Award-winning \u201cCODA\u201d as well \u2014 had also joined the cast.<\/p>\n Popular sweetener from Oregon-based company recalled <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cFlash Before the Bang\u201d is filming just a week ahead of the premiere of another Oregon-made movie.
