Macaulay Culkin could have worked with Wes Anderson. But then again, Jason Schwartzman\u2019s career might have looked very different if Culkin had\u2026<\/p>\n
Culkin said during \u201cHot Ones\u201d in the below video that he almost starred in \u201cRushmore\u201d \u2014 had he not been \u201cretired\u201d at the time. Anderson\u2019s 1999 classic<\/a> starred Schwartzman in his first credited onscreen role. Schwartzman played quirky high school student Max Fischer who develops odd relationships with adults in the periphery of his life. Culkin is now revealing that he was sent the script but never read it until years after the film was released.<\/p>\n More from IndieWire<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWell, you have to understand, at least then, I was retired for at least a big chunk of that, for at least like six or seven years of that,\u201d Culkin said of the pause in his child acting career. \u201cLike I just went to high school, I got married way too young, things like that, you know. I was actually pretty good at reading. I was kind of vivaciously reading through the scripts. But there was a couple that slipped through.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued, \u201cI remember about two years later kind of clearing out the house, throwing out the old scripts, and I saw the one that I didn\u2019t read was \u2018Rushmore.\u2019 I was like, \u2018Ah dang. I probably could have done that one.\u2019 Although I can\u2019t imagine anyone but Schwartzman doing that part. But at the same time, I was like, \u2018Oh man that would have been a ball and a biscuit, that one.’\u201d<\/p>\n There\u2019s still time for Culkin to work with Anderson, though. That being said, perhaps Culkin is veering more the way of Jodie Foster<\/a>, who apparently has been offered parts in three different Anderson films but has turned all of them down.<\/p>\n \u201cOver the years, I had so many movies that I tried to get Jodie Foster to be in,\u201d Anderson told\u00a0Collider<\/a>. \u201cIt used to be\u00a0every\u00a0movie,\u00a0we went to Jodie Foster for a part. And I think I did it three movies in a row, maybe four. And I met her, and I liked her. And I thought it was going to get her. And I think she\u2019s just great, Jodie Foster. And I loved her.
