Country music legend Dolly Parton<\/a>, 79, says she’s having a hard time writing music because she\u2019s grieving her late husband, Carl Dean, who passed away on March 3, 2025, in Nashville.<\/p>\n

The 10-time Grammy Award winner recently shared her songwriting struggles as a guest on reality-TV star Khlo\u00e9 Kardashian\u2019s Khloe In Wonder Land<\/i><\/a> podcast. \u00a0<\/p>\n

When Kardashian asked if there were any unfinished projects Parton was harboring because of writer\u2019s block, she replied emotionally, \u201cMy husband passed away three months ago.\u201d She continued, \u201cWhen you asked me if there\u2019s stuff that I\u2019ve started, haven\u2019t finished, several things I\u2019ve wanted to start but I can\u2019t do it\u2026I will later, but I\u2019m just coming up with such wonderful, beautiful ideas, but I think I won\u2019t finish it.”<\/p>\n

Parton<\/a> said she \u201ccan\u2019t do it\u201d right now because of her schedule and \u201ccan\u2019t afford the luxury of getting that emotional right now,\u201d but she credits songwriting as a source of joy.<\/p>\n

The multifaceted businesswoman previously said it\u2019s her faith that\u2019s allowing her to process continued grief over her late husband.<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly believe that I\u2019m going to see him again someday,\u201d Parton told the Associated Press<\/a> in May. \u201cAnd I see him every day in my memories and in my heart, and in all the things that we used to do and all the things that we\u2019ve built together. You just kind of have to learn to kind of make new plans, but that\u2019s the hardest part.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parton<\/a> explained that Dean was \u201cill for quite a while,\u201d and part of her is \u201cat peace because he\u2019s at peace,\u201d but \u201cthat still doesn\u2019t make up for the loss and the loneliness<\/a> of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dean and Parton met at a laundromat shortly after she moved to Nashville at 18. Two years later, they married on Memorial Day in 1966 in Georgia.<\/p>\n

Known for avoiding the spotlight, Dean was a businessman who owned an asphalt-paving business.<\/p>\n

Parton\u2019s 2023 album, Rockstar<\/i><\/a>, <\/i>was the first rock album she released, and Dean was her muse.<\/p>\n
