John Mellencamp has made headlines more than once for snapping at fans that he believes might be a little out of line at his shows.<\/p>\n
And, well \u2026 he did it again, but this time it seems like he had some fun with it, and the crowd got a laugh out of it, too. <\/p>\n
So, what happened?<\/p>\n
Well, video showed the 73-year-old singing his hit, \u201cJack & Diane,\u201d during a recent show when he stops to give the crowd a piece of his mind for their efforts in singing along. Mellencamp is playing along on his guitar and singing with the crowd following along before he stopped and began to shake his head in the clip. The singer then throws his arms out to his side.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess you guys must have been absent the day they taught English poetry,\u201dhe said as he rubbed his head. <\/b><\/a>\u201cSongs are really simple. They have verses and choruses, and then they have a bridge. This particular song has two verses and then the chorus. You guys sang the first verse and said \u2018(expletive) off\u2019 to the second verse. We\u2019re just going straight to the chorus.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I think the second verse is funny, so I\u2019m gonna sing it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n Mellencamp then went right back into the song, and, again, the crowd seemed to get a kick out of it. <\/p>\n The last time Mellencamp made headlines for setting a crowd straight, things didn\u2019t go so well. During a show in Toledo last spring, he stopped to tell the crowd a story when someone yelled, \u201cPlay some music.\u201d<\/p>\n The crowd groaned and seemed to disagree with the heckler, but that didn\u2019t seem to matter too much to Mellencamp. He paused for a moment and then he let it out.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat do you think I\u2019ve been doing you (expletive),\u201d the singer responded.<\/p>\n He then waived his finger in the air.<\/p>\n \u201cHere\u2019s the thing man, you don\u2019t know me,\u201d he said. \u201cYou don\u2019t (expletive) know me.\u201d<\/p>\n He then instructed his people to \u201cfind this guy and let me see him after the show.\u201d<\/p>\n So, certainly sounds like he was ready for a fight.<\/p>\n After another fan said something, he told the crowd he could stop the show and go home.<\/p>\n \u201cTell you what I\u2019m going to do, since you have been so wonderful, I\u2019m going to cut about 10 songs out of the show,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mellencamp then began singing his hit, \u201cJack and Diane,\u201d before stopping just seconds in and saying, \u201cYou know what? Show\u2019s over.\u201d<\/p>\n He then walked off stage.<\/p>\n The Toledo Blade said <\/b><\/a>he did return to the stage about five minutes later and performed several more songs for the crowd.<\/p>\n He later opened up about that interaction in an interview with The Washington Post. <\/p>\n \u201cIt just hits me sideways,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n And, while he didn\u2019t specifically name Toledo, he did, sort of, get around to situations like that involving his shows.<\/p>\n Planning to go? Listen up.<\/p>\n \u201cI do expect etiquette inside of the theater, the same way you would at a Broadway show,\u201d he told the Post. \u201cMy shows are not really concerts anymore. They\u2019re performances, and there\u2019s a difference between a performance and a concert. Look, I\u2019m not for everyone anymore. I\u2019m just not.
