Kelly Clarkson<\/strong><\/a> and ex-husband Brandon Blackstock<\/strong><\/a> \u201cchanged their perspectives\u201d on life after their bitter divorce during his three-year cancer battle.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCo-parenting was not easy for Kelly because she was the one who had to transport the kids, so it was really her life that was always turned upside down,\u201d a source exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Friday, August 8, adding that Blackstock\u2019s health diagnosis didn\u2019t necessarily bring the former couple \u201ccloser together\u201d but instead \u201cchanged their perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is their [children\u2019s] primary parent. But this was catastrophic for them, so immediately Kelly went into mom mode and focused on the kids and how they were coping,\u201d the insider added.<\/p>\n

Clarkson, 43, also made sure the pair\u2019s two children, River Rose<\/strong> and Remington Alexander<\/strong>, \u201cwere with their dad and his family as much as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Obviously she felt it was important.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blackstock died<\/a> on Thursday, August 7, at age 48. The source told Us<\/em> that his passing was \u201cdevastating for everyone\u201d and \u201cnot expected \u2014 not in this time frame, at least.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson alluded to her ex-husband\u2019s declining health on Wednesday, August 6, when she announced she was halting her Las Vegas residency. \u201cUnfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,\u201d she said in a statement shared via Instagram at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children\u2019s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding,\u201d Clarkson added.<\/p>\n

The late talent manager\u2019s family confirmed his death the following day.<\/p>\n
