It\u2019s not their first time in spooky cinema; horror fans will remember Brie\u2019s turn as Rebecca Walters in the first franchise revival and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/all-of-the-scream-movies-ranked\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:one of the best entries;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>one of the best entries<\/u><\/a>, <em>Scream 4<\/em>. The <em>Scream<\/em> series has always sparked debates about who should survive Ghostface\u2019s rampages, and the <em>Mad Men<\/em> alum just offered one of the spicier takes yet. And honestly\u2026 she might be onto something.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">While the pair was promoting their new spooky flick on the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4tPnimq8_JA&amp;t=4s\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Shut Up Evan podcast;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u><em>Shut Up Evan<\/em><\/u><u> podcast<\/u><\/a>, the conversation turned to Wes Craven\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/news\/2490112\/the-10-best-horror-movie-franchises-ranked\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:beloved horror series;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>beloved horror series<\/u><\/a>. Brie, whose character met a brutal end in the 2011 installment, didn\u2019t hold back when asked about the franchise\u2019s modern era and why so many of the core characters make it to the end. As the <em>Community<\/em> actress sees it:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Can I tell you my problem with the current era of the Scream franchise? Too many people live. The core four needs to die\u2026. We should be down to two of the core four by Scream 7.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She\u2019s referring, of course, to the \u201cCore Four,\u201d characters from the 2022 reboot <em>Scream<\/em> and its sequel <em>Scream VI. <\/em>It consists of Melissa Barrera\u2019s Sam, Jenna Ortega\u2019s Tara, Mason Gooding\u2019s Chad, and Jasmin Savoy Brown\u2019s Mindy, all of whom survived both movies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Franco joked that maybe his wife\u2019s character could return, after all, <em>Scream<\/em> has brought back supposedly dead characters before, remember the hallucinations of Billy Loomis? Not to mention, there are plenty of rumors about several dead characters returning for the next installment. The <em>GLOW <\/em>veteran quipped, \u201cYeah, where\u2019s my role in <em>Scream 7<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But when her husband reminded her that <em>Scream<\/em> (2022) already <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/screams-david-arquette-on-deweys-death-and-not-being-able-to-join-the-cast-for-the-sixth-movie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:took out David Arquette\u2019s Dewey Riley;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>took out David Arquette\u2019s Dewey Riley<\/u><\/a>, a legacy character, the Hollywood-born A-lister wasn\u2019t having it. She added:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"mb-4 border-l-2 pl-5 italic text-tertiary\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">I know [they killed Dewey], and that was very sad. That was a mistake. Yeah, keep the main three. [Laughs]<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s a slightly contradictory stance \u2014 trim down the new blood, but preserve the original trio, though fans of the classic <em>Scream<\/em> era will undoubtedly understand exactly where she\u2019s coming from.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Here\u2019s the thing: the early <em>Scream<\/em> movies made you feel like anyone could die. Randy in <em>Scream 2<\/em>. Cotton in <em>Scream 3<\/em>. Even side characters with cult followings weren\u2019t safe. But in the current era, the \u201cCore Four\u201d have walked away from two back-to-back Ghostface massacres without losing a member.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brie\u2019s larger point seems to be that keeping the main survivors too safe risks losing one of the franchise\u2019s best weapons: unpredictability. And in a series built on meta commentary about horror rules, predictability can be lethal, just not in the fun way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As for <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/scream-7-everything-know-far-130411879.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:what we know about Scream 7;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\"><u>what we know about <\/u><u><em>Scream 7<\/em><\/u><\/a>, we know Neve Campbell will return as Sidney Prescott after <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemablend.com\/movies\/screams-neve-campbell-further-explains-why-she-passed-on-the-upcoming-sixth-movie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:sitting out the last film;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><u>sitting out the last film<\/u><\/a>, with original <em>Scream<\/em> writer Kevin Williamson directing. Due to behind-the-scenes disputes, we also know that the Core Four&#8217;s Jenna Ortega and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/scream-star-melissa-barrera-reportedly-211215115.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Melissa Barrera will not;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">Melissa Barrera will not<\/a> be in the movie. However, it has been confirmed (via <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N_pT_c1u5NA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:ET;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">ET<\/a>) that Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding will be back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">So, for at least one more installment, Ghostface could spare half of the Core Four by omission.
