Josh Duhamel<\/strong><\/a> had an epiphany that contributed to his decision to, ultimately, leave Los Angeles behind<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI make movies and TV shows, and I love it, I truly do love it,\u201d the Ransom Canyon <\/i>star, 52, told People <\/i><\/a>in an interview published on Sunday, August 10. \u201cBut, I had this calling to go and really do things with my hands again \u2014 fix things, make things and just do the basic things that we take for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI\u2019m really more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need in this world of massive technology, to do the basic things to provide for my family. That\u2019s really what it\u2019s about for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The North Dakota native recently built a cabin in Minnesota, telling the outlet that the compound is situated \u201cdeep in the woods\u201d and is a place for his family to gather. The actor shares son Axl, 11, with ex-wife Fergie<\/strong> and son Shepherd, 19 months, with wife Audra Mari.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so back to the basics,\u201d he explained to People. <\/i>\u201cWe get so accustomed to all these luxuries and these amenities that we have, and I think that\u2019s what this is for me. It\u2019s an opportunity to get back to the basics<\/a> and really enjoy the simple things in life, and that\u2019s family, that\u2019s friends, that\u2019s making memories.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duhamel also enjoys how isolated his family cabin is.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of the reason I built my place out in Minnesota, deep in the woods, is it\u2019s removed from everything,\u201d he told Parade <\/i>in an April profile<\/a>. \u201cThe closest store is 40 miles away. Once we get there, it\u2019s really about everybody taking care of each other \u2014 making memories, spending time with family and friends. You really get a chance to get back to the basics.\u201d<\/p>\n
