It seems today that all Seth MacFarlane<\/a> sees is violence in movies and dystopia on TV.<\/p>\n The Oscar nominee recently commented on the trend of \u201cnegative\u201d storytelling in Hollywood, as he argued for more projects that \u201cgive people hope\u201d amid uncertain times in the world.<\/p>\n More from Deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why I did The Orville<\/a> \u2026 because when I was a kid, Hollywood was providing that voice in various forms. There was a lot of hope, and some of the blame lies right here in this town. The dishes that we are serving up are so dystopian and so pessimistic,\u201d he recently explained on the Where Everybody Knows Your Name<\/a> podcast. \u201cAnd yeah, there\u2019s a lot to be pessimistic about, but it\u2019s so one-sided. There\u2019s nothing we\u2019re doing that\u2019s providing anyone an image of hope.\u201d<\/p>\n Noting there\u2019s more projects in the vein of The Handmaid\u2019s Tale than Star Trek, MacFarlane added, \u201cThey\u2019re certainly giving us a lot of cautionary tales, but where are the blueprints that they once gave us for how to do things correctly?<\/p>\n \u201cIt can\u2019t all be just, \u2018Here\u2019s what\u2019s going to happen to you if you f\u2014 up,’\u201d he continued. \u201cYou do need, \u2018Here\u2019s what you can achieve if you change your ways and do things right.’\u201d<\/p>\n Ever since The Sopranos, MacFarlane said \u201cit\u2019s all about the antihero\u201d in Hollywood, as opposed to characters that provide hope.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s the only thing really that Hollywood can do that\u2019s worthwhile because as we all learned from this election, nobody gives a f\u2014 what celebrities think,\u201d said MacFarlane. \u201cWe can tweet, we can talk. Like, people don\u2019t care. They don\u2019t care. What we do do well is tell stories.
