Lynn Whitfield<\/strong> and Yolonda Ross<\/strong> recently discussed leaving The Chi<\/strong> in Season 7, sharing behind-the-scenes details about their characters\u2019 storylines and final moments. They reflected on filming emotional scenes and revealed when they learned their characters\u2019 fates in the long-running series.<\/p>\n Lynn Whitfield, who portrayed Alicia Daniels Lafayette, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> that she learned of her character\u2019s death \u201csomewhere mid-season, maybe the fifth episode or so.\u201d<\/p>\n She noted that the last time she played a character who died in a violent way was in her role as Rae in the 1985 film Silverado. \u201cIt was really an interesting journey for me,\u201d Whitfield said, adding she thought there was \u201ca possibility for [Alicia] to learn something, particularly with her grandson coming.\u201d<\/p>\n The identity of Alicia\u2019s killer was decided late in production. \u201cWe didn\u2019t know until the last episode who was going to do it. I would like to have been in the writers\u2019 room [as] they were deciding,\u201d Whitfield noted. When Whitfield first joined The Chi, she was initially planned to appear in just three episodes. However, her role ended up being expanded to two seasons. \u201cSo many of my fans who hadn\u2019t been watching this show started watching the show,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Yolonda Ross, who has played Jada since The Chi\u2019s debut season in 2018, said, \u201cThey\u2019ve grown to really love Jada, which I so appreciate. And they know my name.\u201d Ross described Jada as \u201ca Black woman that holds it down\u201d and valued showing audiences her personal life and challenges.<\/p>\n Jada\u2019s season seven arc revealed her cancer had returned, leading to a \u201cliving funeral\u201d arranged by her husband Darnell.
