Actor Toby Huss<\/strong> recently addressed his replacement as Kahn<\/strong>\u2019s voice in King of the Hill<\/strong>\u2019s Hulu revival, citing cultural considerations. He also shared how he came to take over as Dale Gribble following Johnny Hardwick\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Actor Toby Huss told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> about being replaced as Kahn in King of the Hill\u2019s Hulu revival, explaining, \u201cI liked the fact that we\u2019re asking these questions now culturally that we didn\u2019t ask back in \u201897, or if we did, they weren\u2019t very loud. Now we are, and I think it\u2019s a much better place to be as a society and as a culture to ask and then give some answers. And if the answers mean you have to make some corrections, let\u2019s make some corrections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huss told TVLine<\/a> that Ronny Chieng is \u201creally hilarious\u201d and it will be \u201cfun to watch what he does with Kahn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Showrunner Saladin K. Patterson also told TVLine<\/a> the recasting kept the role authentic and honored the show\u2019s Asian representation. She said, \u201cKahn was such an important character, especially as the foil to Hank\u2026 Times have changed in terms of our attitudes towards casting, in a good way, and so we certainly wanted to be authentic in who we cast.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, Patterson said, \u201cIt was important in the show, the world has changed a little bit since Hank and Peggy have been gone. Casting has changed a little bit too since Hank and Peggy have been gone, as far as, actors fit the characters that they\u2019re portraying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Huss also voiced Ted Wassanasong, now played by Kenneth Choi, and Chane, now voiced by Ki Hong Lee. Tai Leclaire replaces Breckin Meyer as Joseph Gribble. After stepping back from Kahn, Huss took over as Dale Gribble following Johnny Hardwick\u2019s death. He called the offer \u201ca really sweet and humbling thing\u201d in the aforementioned THR interview.<\/p>\n

Co-star Lauren Tom said, \u201cWe were thrilled as a cast that it was one of our own, that it was going to stay in the family.\u201d Stephen Root added, \u201cNobody could replace Johnny, but Toby could further Johnny\u2019s wonderfulness.\u201d<\/p>\n

The revival premiered August 4 on Hulu with returning cast and Hardwick and Joss\u2019s final performances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
