An unexpected \u2014 and, frankly, quite charming \u2014 theme to this year\u2019s New York Film Festival? Family. Specifically, creative<\/em> families. Look no further than today\u2019s latest lineup announcement, featuring the festival\u2019s Spotlight slate, designed as a \u201cselection of 12 significant and anticipated features.\u201d<\/p>\n The most obvious significance? Filmmaking as family endeavor. Among the selections for this year\u2019s Spotlight section: new works from Rebecca Miller (the five-part documentary \u201cMr. Scorsese\u201d) and <\/em>her son Ronan Day-Lewis (\u201cAnemone\u201d), the latter of which stars no less than Daniel Day-Lewis, who is, of course, husband to Miller and father to the younger Day-Lewis. Also on offer, the latest film from Ben Stiller, which is about his own iconic parents, Jerry Stiller and Anna Meara and is titled \u201cStiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost\u201d (and, yes, various members of Stiller\u2019s family will appear in the film, including his wife and children).<\/p>\n More from IndieWire<\/strong><\/p>\n This year\u2019s Spotlight section includes three world premieres, two U.S. premieres, and six New York premieres, as well as nine short films shown in two programs. Beyond the Day-Lewis, Miller, and Stiller picks, Spotlight will also play home to new Richard Linklater films (\u201cBlue Moon\u201d and \u201cNouvelle Vague\u201d), the powerful documentary \u201cPut Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,\u201d Geeta Gandbhir\u2019s much-talked-about documentary \u201cThe Perfect Neighbor,\u201d Mamoru Hosoda\u2019s animated fantasy \u201cScarlet,\u201d and Harry Lighton\u2019s Cannes winner \u201cPillion.\u201d As was announced on Monday, the section will open with Scott Cooper\u2019s \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n As was also previously announced, NYFF\u2019s Opening Night selection is\u00a0the North American premiere of Luca Guadagnino\u2019s \u201cAfter the Hunt\u201d<\/a>;\u00a0the North American premiere of Jim Jarmusch\u2019s \u201cFather Mother Sister Brother\u201d<\/a>\u00a0is the Centerpiece selection; and\u00a0the world premiere of Bradley Cooper\u2019s \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d<\/a>\u00a0is the Closing Night selection. Last week, NYFF announced\u00a0both its heavy-hitting main slate<\/a>\u00a0and its always\u00a0compelling Currents section<\/a>.
