San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is \u201camping up her efforts to delay<\/a> negotiations\u201d over a downtown Spurs arena and surrounding sports and entertainment district<\/a>, but a group of City Council colleagues are not \u201chaving it,\u201d according to Iszler & Smith of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS. Jones said that she wants a \u201cmore in-depth analysis of the financial benefits of the arena and the district\u201d as a whole than what was in a report that consulting firm CSL International recently delivered to council members. She told reporters at a news conference yesterday that City Manager Erik Walsh \u201cagreed to come back\u201d to council members with a \u201cnew \u2018scope of work\u2019 for such a study.\u201d Jones said, \u201cIt\u2019s really important that as we\u2019re negotiating on such a major development, we\u2019re doing the due diligence the people of San Antonio have requested.\u201d Iszler & Smith noted the \u201cmajority\u201d of Jones\u2019 council colleagues do not \u201cwant to put talks with the Spurs and Bexar County on ice.\u201d They are \u201cpushing for a vote as soon as Aug. 21\u2033 if the parties have finalized a term sheet for an agreement. Walsh \u201cdid not appear to share Jones\u2019 position\u201d that city negotiators cannot \u201cwrap up the term sheet until there\u2019s a new report.\u201d City staffers \u201cexpect the arena alone to cost\u201d $1.3B to $1.5B, but they are still \u201cfinalizing a price tag\u201d with Spurs Sports & Entertainment.
