For example, the Season 10 premiere saw <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/show\/superman-legacy\/\">Superman<\/a> actress Brosnahan renovate the kitchen and dining room of her best friend\u2019s mom and dad.<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0Celebrity IOU is intended to be heartwarming and uplifting, some fans have said the series is just an excuse for multi-millionaire celebrities to show off how \u201cgenerous\u201d they are, when in reality, they could have used their wealth to help their friends and employees without the cameras rolling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes anyone see Celebrity IOU as a bit tone deaf?\u201d a user recently asked on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/HGTV\/comments\/1mjo3eo\/does_anyone_see_celebrity_iou_as_a_bit_tone_deaf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the HGTV Reddit forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The post received dozens of responses, with many agreeing with the original poster\u2019s sentiment. \u201cAlways. So condescending,\u201d replied one commenter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=j3-GHxDqTdY\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=j3-GHxDqTdY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI dislike the conceit that \u2018I always wanted to do something nice for her.\u2019 Uh, you\u2019ve been richer than your dear, dear lifelong friend for decades, what took you so long? Why fix up two rooms in a crappy house when you could move them to a new place?\u201d said another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNet worth of $70 million and you\u2019ve \u2018always wanted to do something nice\u2019 but it took a TV network doing it for you to follow through? If you really cared, you\u2019d have done it 10 years ago,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n<p>Another asked, \u201cWhy are they only helping their friend after HGTV suggested it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese celebrities come on and say how this work has needed to be done for years for this person, and yet they waited until they could be heroes on TV to do it!\u201d one fan wrote. \u201cThey could redo these places 10 times over with the money they have, but they wait for the glory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s apparent the producers approach celebrities to be on the show, then tell them to find someone to give a remodel to,\u201d added another. \u201cIt seems they mostly choose their servants, or nannies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another said it\u2019s \u201cso embarrassing to watch multi-millionaires talk s**t about their servants\u2019 tiny homes, and then to watch those homes be turned into stark white boxes with zero personality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The above user specifically called out <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/fran-drescher\/\">Fran Drescher<\/a> for transforming her housekeeper\u2019s home into something \u201ccondescending and soulless\u201d and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/gwyneth-paltrow\/\">Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a> for remodelling her assistant\u2019s home into a property that \u201cappears, even after the work, to entirely lack a bed, shower, or closet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though they did add, \u201cSnoop Dog was alright. Brad Pitt was fine. The others have been such tone deaf horror shows that I can\u2019t believe celebrities have willingly signed up for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another added, \u201cGarbage show! Not interested in celebrities or fake generosity for likes or career revitalization. All of it is gross.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, there were some defenders, including one user who wrote, \u201cDid you ever consider that the person would not accept that type of help, but feels more comfortable for the show to do it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I am giving them a pass because the ones who receive are very deserving. Yes, I wish they would just do for their friends, but whatever,\u201d said another.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile I get thinking it\u2019s a bit tone deaf, I think it also depends on the person. There as sooo many people who are so against handouts and wouldn\u2019t want money for nothing and would be offended by their friend offering,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of Celebrity IOU?
