King Charles<\/a>, Grant Harrold, who said: “When dining, the Royal Family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules.<\/p>\n“It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties. We don’t want a member of the Royal Family having a serious reaction to food poisoning. Especially if [they] are on an overseas tour. Therefore you will not normally find this on the royal menu.”<\/p>\n
While fish and shellfish in particular can help make up a healthy diet, people who eat it can be susceptible to food poisoning. Food items such as mussels, oysters, clams, crab, and lobster can contain harmful viruses and bacteria, which can cause food poisoning if they aren’t cooked properly.<\/p>\n
While most shellfish dishes are usually thoroughly cooked to help kill any deadly organisms inside, some are frequently served raw. Oysters in particular can contain certain viruses such as norovirus, which can result in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea.<\/p>\n
Because of this, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises that pregnant women, older people, very young children, and people with a weakened immune system avoid eating raw or lightly cooked shellfish to reduce the risk of food poisoning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
