Madeline Gaudreau<\/strong> is remembering her late husband, Matthew<\/strong><\/a>, as someone who sincerely wanted to be a father \u2014 and as the person who made her a mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for making me a mom,\u201d Madeline said in a Wednesday, August 13, appearance on Good Morning America<\/em><\/a> when asked what she would say to Matthew if he were around.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor a long time, Matt has wanted kids, since I think he graduated college,\u201d Madeline continued. \u201cI was like, \u2018Matt, we\u2019re too young.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She also revealed that before she became pregnant with the couple\u2019s only child, son Tripp, she suffered a miscarriage.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMatthew Gaudreau and his wife, Madeline Gaudreau, were together for nearly 15 years \u2014 and married three \u2014 before his untimely death. \u201cBest 14 years of my life \ud83e\udd0d I will cherish those years and you for the rest of my life,\u201d Madeline wrote via Instagram in September 2024 days after her husband and his [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cA lot of people don\u2019t know but in January we got pregnant and had a miscarriage in February,\u201d she said. \u201cSo then [we] got pregnant again in March with Tripp.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matthew, who was a professional hockey player, died in August 2024 along with his brother, Johnny<\/strong>, after the pair was struck by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bicycles in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. They were 31 and 29, respectively.<\/p>\n

The brothers were supposed to be groomsmen in their sister Katie<\/strong>\u2019s wedding the next day. The ceremony was postponed after the accident, and Katie eventually married husband Devin Joyce<\/strong><\/a> in July 2025.<\/p>\n

Days after Matthew\u2019s death, Madeline shared footage from the couple\u2019s sex reveal, describing her husband\u2019s excitement to be a father.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proudest dad. Matty couldn\u2019t wait to be a dad,\u201d she wrote via Instagram. \u201cHe never missed an appointment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCourtesy of Katie Gaudreau\/Instagram Madeline Gaudreau celebrated her baby shower on Saturday, October 12, weeks after her husband, Matthew Gaudreau, and his brother, Johnny Gaudreau, were killed in a tragic car accident in Oldmans Township, New Jersey on August 29 \u2014 the day before their sister\u2019s wedding. Madeline, who is expecting her first child with [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That December, Madeline announced Tripp\u2019s arrival<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTripp Matthew \ud83e\udd0d\ud83e\udd8b,\u201d Madeline wrote via Instagram<\/a> on December 29. \u201cMommy & Daddy\u2019s world.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added at his funeral that her new reality as a single mom is \u201cdebilitating.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMatt will surround his son for the rest of his life,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m so thankful God gave us a child, a little Matty, to run around for life, to carry on his legacy. Tripp will know how much his father loved him, and I promise to do all the things with him we talked about.\u201d<\/p>\n
