Diff\u2019rent Strokes star Todd Bridges recently reflected on the time in the \u201980s when Eddie Murphy enlisted Rick James to stage an intervention for his drug use.<\/p>\n
While appearing on The Patrick LabyorSheaux podcast, he explained that it all started when The Pickup <\/a>star noticed he was spiraling. \u201cEddie was like, \u2018Man, we gotta get Todd some help. He\u2019s trippin\u2019. We gotta find somebody who knows about drugs.\u2019 Everybody\u2019s naming Rick James. \u2018Send Rick James over there!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The plan might\u2019ve worked if the \u201cBrick House\u201d singer <\/a>wasn\u2019t getting high, too. \u201cRick comes to my house, opens his car door, and all this smoke comes out,\u201d he further explained the moment. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018What\u2019s going on?\u2019\u201d he added, noting that the funk legend was \u201cgetting higher than [he] was at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cRick was wild, so when Rick spoke, you listened. He said, \u2018Let me see your stuff.\u2019 I showed him my drugs and he goes, \u2018Man, that\u2019s too much. I don\u2019t want you killing yourself\u2026 let me take half of that so you don\u2019t kill yourself,’\u201d he hilariously continued.<\/p>\n Then, as Bridges remembers, James started flirting up a woman on his couch who he once dated. \u201cI\u2019m ready to kill Rick at this point. I\u2019m like, \u2018What kind of drug intervention was that?
