On Wednesday, August 13, three months after\u00a0Billy Bush<\/strong>\u00a0announced he was leaving\u00a0Extra<\/em>, it was revealed that he will be replaced by\u00a0Dancing With the Stars<\/em>\u00a0judge\u00a0Derek Hough<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ballroom has been my stage, my home and my launchpad. Now, I\u2019m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of\u00a0Extra<\/em>,\u201d Hough, 40, said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Hough ultimately won the spot on the daytime entertainment show, it has just been revealed he edged out fellow reality star Wells Adams<\/strong> and seasoned entertainment journalist Jason Kennedy<\/strong> for the coveted role, according to an insider who spoke to Us Weekly.<\/em><\/p>\n

Adams, 41, is best known as a member of Bachelor Nation. He was a contestant on\u00a0JoJo Fletcher<\/strong>\u2018s season of\u00a0The Bachelorette<\/em>\u00a0in 2016 and competed on\u00a0Bachelor in Paradise<\/em>\u00a0later that year before becoming the series bartender from 2017 onward.<\/p>\n

Kennedy, 47, is a veteran entertainment journalist who worked at E! from 2005 to 2021. He cohosted\u00a0E! News<\/em>\u00a0as well as the network\u2019s\u00a0Live From the Red Carpet<\/em>\u00a0specials.<\/p>\n

Hough first gained fame as a professional dancer on DWTS<\/em> for 17 seasons, winning the mirrorball trophy a record six times with his celebrity partners before becoming a judge in season 29.<\/p>\n

Hough called his new role \u201can honor\u201d while teasing\u00a0Extra<\/em>\u2018s \u201cbold, fresh new era.\u201d He will make his hosting debut when season 32 of\u00a0Extra<\/em>\u00a0premieres on September 8 on Fox.<\/p>\n
