Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a> appears to have it all \u2014 including some regrets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The \u201cOnce Upon A Time In Hollywood\u201d star has spent the past three decades curating one of the most impressive filmographies<\/a> of his generation, working with historic directors such as Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n However, he\u2019s still kicking himself over one major misstep, an admission he made during a recent Esquire interview with Paul Thomas Anderson<\/a>, whose 1997 film \u201cBoogie Nights<\/a>\u201d took Hollywood by storm. At the time, Anderson was a 27-year-old wunderkind.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cI\u2019ll say it even though you\u2019re here: My biggest regret is not doing Boogie Nights<\/em>,\u201d the actor confirmed<\/a>. \u201cIt was a profound movie of my generation. I can\u2019t imagine anyone but Mark [Wahlberg] in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cIt\u2019s ironic that you\u2019re the person asking that question,\u201d he told Anderson, \u201cbut it\u2019s true.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The duo is promoting their first collaboration, \u201cOne Battle After Another<\/a>,\u201d an action-thriller comedy inspired by Thomas Pynchon\u2019s \u201cVineland.\u201d It follows a former revolutionary, now past his prime, embarking on<\/span> a wild quest<\/a> to find his missing daughter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cWhy did it take us so long?\u201d Anderson asked DiCaprio about finally working together.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Anderson certainly wanted DiCaprio for \u201cBoogie Nights,\u201d which painted a bleak portrait of the porn industry\u2019s rise in California, but was famously turned down \u2014 as DiCaprio already had a prior commitment at the time to star in a film called \u201cTitanic.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n He reportedly<\/a> urged Anderson to cast Wahlberg<\/a>, his \u201cThe Basketball Diaries\u201d (1995) co-star.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Anderson did just that, practically transforming the former model and rapper into a respected actor.
