Taylor Swift<\/a> has opened up about the emotional moment she was able to reunite with the masters of her first six albums<\/a> following a very public, years-long dispute that led her to embark on a rerecording journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The pop superstar, who appeared on her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce<\/a> and his brother Jason Kelce\u2019s \u201cNew Heights\u201d podcast on Wednesday, teared up as she described getting a call<\/a> from her mom, Andrea Swift, that the purchase was final.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI just, like, very dramatically hit the floor \u2014 for real. Like, honestly, just started bawling my eyes out and I\u2019m just like, just weeping,\u201d said Swift, noting that she was in Kansas City \u2014 home to Travis Kelce\u2019s Chiefs \u2014 at the time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Kelce, as Swift recalled getting the news, softly sang the \u201cIt\u2019s Been A Long Time Coming\u201d intro<\/a> from her record-setting Eras Tour.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In May, Swift announced that she bought back the rights <\/span>to her early recordings<\/span><\/a>, adding that she isn\u2019t ruling out dropping the <\/span>unreleased, rerecorded versions of her self-titled debut album and 2017\u2032s \u201cReputation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The purchase arrived years after her first record label, Big Machine Records, sold the masters in 2019 to investor and record executive Scooter Braun, who has ties to longtime Swift adversaries Kim Kardashian<\/a> and Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West. Swift once called it her \u201cworst case scenario<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Braun went on to sell the masters to Shamrock Capital, a private equity firm that Swift would later purchase them from.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThis changed my life. I can\u2019t believe it still,\u201d she said of reclaiming her masters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cInstead of it being an intrusive thought that hurts me, it\u2019s, \u2018I can\u2019t believe this happened.\u2019 Like, \u2018How lucky am I? How grateful am I?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Taylor Swift on reclaiming her masters:<\/p>\n

Swift recalled wanting to share the news with Kelce, who was playing video games at the time, in a \u201cnormal way\u201d but found herself \u201cabsolutely seething\u201d instead.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cJust dead weight, losing all control,\u201d Kelce replied.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cHad no power in my legs to support myself,\u201d Swift added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Moments later, Kelce emphasized that he was \u201cso happy\u201d for Swift and started crying when he got the news, as well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cI know how much it burned you that you didn\u2019t have… your creation,\u201d he told Swift.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cAnd I just think doing it the right way, creating the fan base that you did the right way… you were eventually going to get it back somehow, some way because you\u2019re always doing things with the right intentions.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Swift is gearing up for the release of her 12th album<\/a>, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl,\u201d the first since reuniting with the masters, on Oct. 3.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

She revealed that the album tackles what she was \u201cgoing through offstage\u201d during the Eras Tour and stressed that the songs come from the \u201cmost infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
