James Gunn<\/strong> recently discussed the status of the Viola Davis<\/strong>-led Amanda Waller series<\/strong> and where it stands in the DCU slate. In a new red carpet interview, he shared updates on the show\u2019s development. He acknowledged that it has progressed more slowly than other projects.<\/p>\n During the Peacemaker Season 2 red carpet premiere, James Gunn shared an update on the Viola Davis-led Waller series. \u201cWe\u2019re working on it, but you know some things have moved really fastly and some things not so fast \u2013 and that\u2019s been a thing that hasn\u2019t moved so fast. But I can\u2019t wait to see Viola get her Waller outfits on, with her s\u2014\u2013 floral dresses and do something special,\u201d Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n In February 2024, Gunn confirmed<\/a> on social media that he moved Waller to follow Peacemaker Season 2 \u201cfor a variety of reasons\u201d and added that production would not start without a finished script. He stated, \u201cQuality is the utmost priority.\u201d DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran later told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in February 2025, \u201cWe\u2019ve taken a couple of cracks at it but still haven\u2019t been able to land. Waller has been a bumpy road.\u201d<\/p>\n The series, announced in 2023, is a spinoff from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. It focuses on Amanda Waller, played by Davis, and includes members of Team Peacemaker. Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver serve as co-showrunners, with Henry also writing and executive producing. Gunn and Safran are executive producers.<\/p>\n Production delays in 2023 prompted DC Studios to prioritize Peacemaker Season 2, which pushed back Waller\u2019s original 2024 release plan. In June 2025, Gunn denied rumors that the show was being reworked into a Checkmate-focused ensemble series and called them \u201cB.S.\u201d<\/p>\n When first announcing the project, Gunn called<\/a> it \u201ca fantastic story that is out of this world,\u201d created by Henry, known for Watchmen, and Carver, creator of Doom Patrol. The studio has not set a release date for Waller.<\/p>\n Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere in August 2025.
