So you have to be at least faithful enough to them that they feel like they\u2019re showing up to something that at least resembles what they love and what you love, but you want to bring something new to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">To that end, he has crafted an expansive new storyline for Grisham\u2019s up-and-coming attorney Rudy Baylor (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/milo-callaghan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Milo Callaghan;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Milo Callaghan<\/a>), moved the setting from Memphis to South Carolina and reconfigured several of the book\u2019s characters. In the opener, the relatively idealistic Rudy, after being fired from the prestigious Tinley Britt law firm on his first day, is forced to take a job with a brassy ambulance-chasing lawyer named Jocelyn \u201cBruiser\u201d Stone (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/show\/once-upon-a-time\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Once Upon a Time;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><i>Once Upon a Time<\/i><\/a>\u2018s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/lana-parrilla\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Lana Parrilla;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Lana Parrilla<\/a>, gleefully gender-flipping the role first played by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/mickey-rourke\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mickey Rourke;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Mickey Rourke<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But to earn his keep with Bruiser and her second-in-command, Deck (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/pj-byrne\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:P.J. Byrne;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">P.J. Byrne<\/a>), Rudy must bring in a new client. He winds up taking the case of Dot Black (Karen Bryson), a grieving mother looking to sue a hospital system\u2019s CEO (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/hugh-quarshie\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Hugh Quarshie;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Hugh Quarshie<\/a>) for the wrongful death of her son. The only hitch: The defendant is the top client at Rudy\u2019s former firm, where his girlfriend, fellow lawyer Sarah (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/madison-iseman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Madison Iseman;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Madison Iseman<\/a>), is slowly falling under the sway of Tinley Britt\u2019s Machiavellian managing partner, Leo F. Drummond (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/show\/mad-men\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mad Men;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \"><i>Mad Men<\/i><\/a>\u2018s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/john-slattery\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:John Slattery;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">John Slattery<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThere\u2019s a moment in the book, it\u2019s in the movie, too, where Rudy asks Leo if he remembers the first time he sold out,\u201d Seitzman continues. \u201cAnd I thought, maybe this show is the story of the first time Sarah sold out. I don\u2019t want to give away too many spoilers here, but what if that\u2019s the story that we see with her? The story of how, in very small increments, you can be tempted to trade in your moral code for ambition. And if Rudy\u2019s faced with similar moments, what does he do and how does that define his character?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">And can they survive more than just opposing counsel? As both sides begin to build their cases, a homicidal nurse (<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/people\/dan-fogler\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Dan Fogler;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Dan Fogler<\/a>) starts to target anyone connected to\u2026well, even Seitzman knows spoiling that twist would be criminal. \u201cHe\u2019s at the heart of the case,\u201d is all he\u2019ll tease. \u201cWe always saw him as a wolf in the woods, if you will, who is very often on the outskirts of the story, but moving closer and closer until we get to the end.
