It\u2019s been a fortnight<\/a> and then some since we\u2019ve gotten new Taylor Swift<\/a> music, but the wait is finally over.<\/p>\n

The pop superstar announced her twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl<\/em>, <\/em><\/strong>at 12:12 a.m. on August 12 (get it?), with a surprise post on her website<\/a> and Instagram<\/a>. (You can already pre-order it here<\/a>.) Swift dropped the announcement on boyfriend Travis Kelce\u2019s<\/a> podcast, New Heights<\/em>, and shared a teaser clip of the full episode, which dropped on Wednesday with a lot more details about the upcoming album. <\/em>Excitement began to build earlier in the day when Swift\u2019s official fan engagement team, Taylor Nation, shared a series of twelve photos<\/a>, with a caption that read: \u201cThinking about when she said \u2018See you next era\u2026\u2019 \u2764\ufe0f\u200d\ud83d\udd25<\/em>.\u201d In each of the shots, Swift sported some variation of an orange outfit.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kelce announced that he and his brother were going to have a special guest on their podcast (and it was soon revealed to be Swift).<\/p>\n

When does the album come out? <\/h2>\n

The Life of a Showgirl <\/em>will officially release on October 3, 2025. Is there a Mean Girls<\/em> tie in somewhere with the project? We’ll just have to wait and see. <\/p>\n

The cover art is spectacular.<\/h2>\n

The cover for The Life of a Showgirl<\/em> features Swift like we\u2019ve never seen her before. Dressed in a crystal ensemble, Taylor reclines in a pool of water, with only her face breaching the surface. The project\u2019s title is emblazoned across the photograph in bold, sparkly orange. <\/p>\n

    Taylor has been teasing the album for a while.<\/h2>\n

    Quickly, fans began to dig up Easter eggs that hinted at what was to come<\/a>. For instance, Swift notably left through an orange door at the final show of her record-breaking Eras Tour. Meanwhile, her most-recent TikTok video<\/a>, shared in October 2024, saw Swift walking in front of a sign that said: \u201cA12.\u201d Coincidence? It never is with Tay.<\/p>\n

    Throughout the first half of 2025, Swift stayed mostly quiet, remaining out of the spotlight save for rare date nights<\/a> or evenings out with the girls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    Last year, when she released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department<\/a><\/em>, it went on to sell over a million copies in a single week, becoming her seventh studio album to do so and extending her unmatched record. It also went on to receive five nominations at the 67th annual Grammy Awards<\/a>, including Album of the Year (of which Swift has won four times\u2014also a record). The prize ultimately went to Beyonc\u00e9<\/a> instead, for her critically-acclaimed Cowboy Carter<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    On top of all that, there have been murmurs that she is engaged<\/a>\u2014or en route to be engaged\u2014to Kelce.<\/p>\n
