James Gunn\u2019s Superman<\/em> is gearing up for a digital release on Friday, and the director says there\u2019s a reason behind its quick virtual arrival.<\/p>\n The DCU film hit theaters on July 11, with the film being out for only a little over a month before it was available to buy\/rent on Friday via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, among other platforms. When speaking with Screen Rant<\/em><\/a>, Gunn said the film had such a quick streaming turnaround due to the release of Peacemaker<\/em> season two<\/a>.<\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cWell, it\u2019s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker<\/em>,\u201d he said when asked what drove the \u201cmindset\u201d of releasing the film on streaming so \u201csoon after\u201d Superman<\/em>\u2019s theatrical release.<\/p>\n \u201cI originally thought Peacemaker<\/em> was going to be coming out next month,\u201d Gunn added. \u201cThere was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker<\/em> is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman<\/em> that wanted to, even those people who couldn\u2019t get to a theater before Peacemaker<\/em>. And that\u2019s really the reason for it.\u201d<\/p>\n At the Wednesday night New York premiere of the DCU series, the showrunner<\/a> told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a><\/em> that his David Corenswet-led superhero movie \u201cleads directly into Peacemaker<\/em>\u201d while the second season of the TV show will end up \u201csetting up all of the rest of the DCU.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a big part, definitely Superman<\/em> leads directly into Peacemaker<\/em>,\u201d he explained. \u201cIt should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker<\/em>, it\u2019s incredibly important.\u201d<\/p>\n Of what to expect in season two, Gunn added, \u201cLots of guest stars coming up, lots of characters that are showing up that we\u2019ve already met in Superman<\/em>. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything that I\u2019ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker<\/em>, so I\u2019m so excited for people to see it.\u201d<\/p>\n John Cena, who stars in the show, reiterated Gunn\u2019s sentiments, telling THR<\/em> that season two \u201cis about furthering the narrative. Instead of stand-alone properties, all of the DCU is now connected, as you saw Peacemaker show up in Superman<\/em>. I think what you see in season two is just a forward of that narrative.
