\n\tThough she is \u201chappily married\u201d today, Camila Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a> has also experienced disappointment.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI had my time of heartbreak,\u201d the 27-year-old Mexican singer confesses. \u201cPlus, I grew up with divorced parents, and my mom only listened to heartbreak songs.\u201d So it\u2019s no surprise that her new album La Fern\u00e1ndez<\/em>, released on Thursday night (Aug. 14), is full of them.<\/p>\n \n\tIn the follow-up to her 2023 album Camila Fern\u00e1ndez<\/em>, the heiress to one of Mexico\u2019s greatest musical dynasties presents 10 ranchera songs with modern lyrics, from previously released singles \u201cSe Cancela La Llorada,\u201d \u201cPudimos Ser\u201d and \u201cNo Puedo Dormir Sin Ti\u201d to the focus track \u201cLa Loca Era Yo\u201d and \u201cDe Llorar Se Me Secaron Los Ojos.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tProduced by Orlando Aispuro \u2014 whom she recruited after noticing the twist he gave to Car\u00edn Le\u00f3n\u2019s music with \u201cLa primera cita\u201d \u2014 La Fern\u00e1ndez<\/em> showcases a more mature side of the artist, with stronger themes blended with her personal style.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe did a songwriting camp where I was fully involved, and although I\u2019m in a stable relationship [with husband Francisco Barba,] it was truly enriching to talk about heartbreak because these songs are performed with more intensity, and you connect with the audience a lot,\u201d Camila tells Billboard Espa\u00f1ol<\/em>.<\/p>\n \n\tThe daughter of Alejandro Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a> and granddaughter of Vicente Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a> is currently accompanying her father as the opening act on his De Rey a Rey tour, but she\u2019s been pursuing her music career independently of her family ties for a while.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWhen I started in this profession, I asked my dad for advice, and he was very clear. He told me there were two paths: He could put everything on a silver platter for me, or I could fight for it on my own and enjoy it much more. That\u2019s what I\u2019m doing because I want him to feel proud of me,\u201d Camila says. \u201cHe even thought my pregnancy would hold me back, and now he realizes it didn\u2019t. Today, I have an excellent relationship with him, and I\u2019ve earned his respect.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDetermined, the mother of one adds: \u201cI\u2019m going to defend Mexican music<\/a> fiercely because I want my daughter and future generations to keep singing my grandfather\u2019s, my father\u2019s, and my own songs.
