He admitted as much during a \u201cJake\u2019s Takes\u201d interview with journalist Jake Hamilton released earlier this week. And while Washington\u2019s cheekier quips made his \u201cHighest 2 Lowest\u201d co-star Jeffrey Wright crack up, his full explanation was full of earnest introspection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI really don\u2019t care about that kind of stuff,\u201d he continued. \u201cI\u2019ve been at this a long time, and there are times when I won and shouldn\u2019t have won, and \u2026 didn\u2019t win and should\u2019ve won.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cMan gives the award, God gives the reward,\u201d he reflected. \u201cI\u2019m not that interested in Oscars.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Washington certainly doesn\u2019t need any more statuettes to cement himself as a screen legend. The actor has 10 Academy Award nods<\/a> under his belt and won Best Supporting Actor for \u201cGlory<\/a>\u201d (1989) and Best Actor for \u201cTraining Day<\/a>\u201d (2001).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In an Esquire essay last year, Washington said that he had \u201cshot dope\u201d in his youth<\/a> and did \u201ca lot of damage to the body\u201d through past drug and alcohol use. He noted God had seen him through the worst, and even mentioned the Oscars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cGod is the true way,\u201d he said at the time, adding<\/a>: \u201cWhen you see me, you see the best I could do with what I\u2019ve been given by my lord and savior. I\u2019m unafraid. I don\u2019t care what anyone thinks. See, talking about the fear part of it\u2014you can\u2019t talk like that and win Oscars.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Washington couldn\u2019t help but boast about his awards a little during his recent chat. He told Hamilton that people often ask him where he keeps his Oscar, only to deliver an admittedly badass punchline.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
