Jack Ladder<\/a> has shared details of his eighth album, entitled Separation Rock<\/em>. The follow-up to 2023\u2019s Tall Pop Syndrome<\/em> is set for release on Friday, October 10th via Worse Records \u2013 which marks his first release on the independent label run by longtime friend and Dreamlanders<\/a> bandmate Kirin J Callinan<\/a>. The Sydney-born singer-songwriter has also shared a new single, \u2018Everything Belongs 2 U\u2019, as well as two intimate launch dates for November \u2013 all of which can be found below.<\/p>\n The new single, whose title references Sinead O\u2019Connor\u2019s 1990 hit \u2018Nothing Compares 2 U\u2019, follows on from the release of the Sharon Van Etten<\/a> duet \u2018Missing\u2019<\/a> in June and \u2018I Want The 1 (That I Can\u2019t Have)\u2019 last month. It features Alex Cameron<\/a>, another longtime collaborator and close friend of Ladder\u2019s, providing backing vocals. In a press statement, Ladder noted that \u2018Everything Compares 2 U\u2019 was \u201cthe first song written for the album and the last one [that was] completed\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cFor awhile, I became obsessed with the Elton John<\/a> song \u2018Skyline Pigeon\u2019 after watching The Favourite<\/em> on a flight home from an American tour,\u201d he said. \u201cI had a playlist with all the most heart-wrenching piano ballads, featuring Neil Sedaka\u2019s \u2018Going Nowhere\u2019, John Cale\u2019s \u2018I\u2019m Not The Loving Kind\u2019 and Pete Dello\u2019s \u2018Do I Still Figure In Your Life?\u2019. It can be viewed below.<\/p>\n Ladder recorded Separation Rock<\/em> in North Hollywood, California at Valentine Studios. The album was was produced by American producer Zach Dawes, who has also played in the indie rock bands\u00a0Mini Mansions<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0The Last Shadow Puppets<\/a>. In addition to producing the record, Dawes also played bass. The pair were joined in the studio by session drummer Jay Bellerose \u2013 whose credits include the aforementioned Elton John \u2013 as well as keyboardist Tyler Parkford.<\/p>\n Next week, Ladder will perform a rare and intimate solo show at The Midnight Special in Sydney. Taking place on Thursday, August 21st, Ladder will play two sets from 7pm onward. Entry is free, but the venue is expecting to be full ahead of his start time. In November, meanwhile, Ladder will play two full-band shows to officially launch the album: One on Friday, November 7th at The Wesley Anne in Melbourne, and one on Friday, November 14th at The Vanguard in Sydney.
