Happy\u2019s Place<\/a><\/em> stopped short of making Bobbie and Emmett an item in Season 1 \u2014 and it\u2019s beginning to sound like it\u2019ll be a while before they make things official in Season 2.<\/p>\n

When TVLine hopped on Zoom with series co-creator Kevin Abbott in March, he revealed that it was originally his plan to have real-life lovebirds Reba McEntire and Rex Linn<\/a> play a couple on screen by the end of the NBC comedy\u2019s freshman run. Alas, \u201cwe only had 13 episodes originally ordered. We were putting some pieces in place, just in case, but we didn\u2019t know if we were going to get a back order, or how many [episodes] it was going to be if we did,\u201d the EP explained. \u201cUltimately, we got the pickup \u2014 a back five \u2014 after we\u2019d wrapped the first 13 [and] I just didn\u2019t feel like I could successfully build the relationship to the point where I wanted it to be by the finale\u2026. When we get there, I want the audience to feel really satisfied.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five months later, when TVLine caught up with the showrunner during a recent NBC press day, he warned that there will be at least one more obstacle that stands in the way of their budding romance \u2014 and it sounds like a big one.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to continue to explore the Bobbie\/Emmett relationship,\u201d he promised, but \u201cone of the impediments to that is that Emmett holds a secret. I\u2019m not going to tell you what that secret is, but he has one, and it\u2019s, I think, a very interesting one.\u201d Hmm\u2026.<\/p>\n

While Abbott was hesitant to reveal too much more about Season 2, he did promise that new episodes will see Melissa Peterman\u2019s Gabby continue on her quest to have a child, while Isabella, whose circumstances have changed \u201cdrastically\u201d since she found out that she had a half-sister, will be going through something of an identity crisis, asking: \u201cWho am I now?\u201d<\/p>\n

Happy\u2019s Place<\/em> Season 2 premieres Friday, Nov. 7, with back-to-back episodes starting at 8\/7c on NBC; a trailer has not yet been released.
