As the father of two daughters (as well as a two-year-old son), the Maroon 5<\/a> singer is not afraid to say that his girls\u2019 musical taste sometimes shapes his own.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\tExplore\t\t<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n See latest videos, charts and news<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n \n\tSo when he sat down with the Sirius XM Hits 1 this week to promote his band\u2019s just-released Love Is Like<\/em> album as part of the radio streamer\u2019s new Artist Residency program<\/a>, Levine opened up about bonding with Dusty Rose, 8, and Gio Grace, 6, over their mutual obsession with Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>. \u201cI gotta do Olivia \u2019cause of my kids. They\u2019ll be so excited. I mean, I\u2019m also a fan of Olivia. I\u2019m not shying away from the fact that I\u2019m a big fan of Olivia Rodrigo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI took my girls to go see Olivia Rodrigo play at the Forum last summer and she was phenomenal,\u201d Levine added. \u201cI was blown away. She keeps it real. She puts on a rock show. All you kids out there, she does it for real. Not too much glitz and glamor and smoke and mirrors. Just the real deal. I think she\u2019s amazing, so I\u2019m gonna play a song by Olivia Rodrigo.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLevine also told SiriusXM Hits 1 about the circuitous route the album\u2019s soulful title track took to its final destination. The song, on which Levine sings in an almost rap-like cadence over a sample of the 1972 Ashford & Simpson song \u201cSilly Wasn\u2019t I,\u201d was originally titled \u201cDrugs,\u201d but the band nixed that name because it felt too harsh.<\/p>\n \n\tHe said he was at home writing and messing around with samples when he wrote the line, \u201clove is like drugs,\u201d which he wasn\u2019t sure fit his vibe. \u201cI was like, \u2018Am I really gonna do this? This is weird. This is not my normal style,’\u201d Levine recalled thinking of the track that started out as \u201ca joke,\u201d but then took on a real life when he sent it to a few friends thinking they\u2019d agree it was a dumb idea.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI was like, \u2018Oh, this is dumb. I can\u2019t do this. This is silly, right?,’\u201d he asked them. \u201cAnd every response I kept getting back was like, \u2018No, this is actually really good,\u2019 and so there\u2019s that scary feeling of something when you\u2019re doing something that you don\u2019t usually do.\u201d More confident he was on to something, Levine kept working on the track before having a lightbulb moment that what it really needed was a verse from Lil Wayne<\/a>.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cSo we got it to his team and it\u2019s funny because when they got it, they were like, \u2018Oh, this is so sick. When is Adam gonna cut it?,\u2019 and they were like, \u2018No, that\u2019s Adam singing in the song.\u2019 And they\u2019re like, \u2018What?’\u201d But for Levine, 46, who is more than three decades into his career, putting the final touches on the song was \u201cscary\u201d because it was definitely new territory for him. \u201cBut they loved it. Wayne loved it.
